We Were Just Kids When We Fell In Love...

Have you ever listened to the song
I love the song and I can really relate to many of the lyrics.
The hubs and I met as teenagers working at a hamburger restaurant,
Burger Chef
We use to close the restaurant together a bit so we had time to talk and get to know each other.
He was a little shy, I was not...
We had a lot of fun, and some meaningful conversations at night and I really grew to like him.
He was not like the guys I dated nor was he like the male friends I had.
He was so kind and thoughtful,
very family oriented and spoke so sweetly about his younger brother and sister.
I hinted that I would like to see him outside of work, but he never asked me out on a date, so I asked him.
Perhaps 10 or more times and he always declined.
We did not attend the same high school, I asked him to take me to my Senior Ball, he also declined.
I invited someone else to the Ball,
he said yes, and on the evening of the event I stopped at Burger Chef to show everyone my dress.
But really, I just wanted him to see what he was missing, he could have cared less.
Next try...
I bought a 45 record and left it in his car...the song,
"I'd Really Love To See You Tonight" by England Dan & John Ford Coley,
you can listen to the song here.
That worked and he finally asked me out on a date, I was elated.
The rest is history!
We were inseparable until we got married in June of 1978, we were both 19.

We have been married 43 years = 15,929 days!

- but there's a warm wind blowing the stars around, and I'd really love to see you tonight -

Many thanks to my friend Liz for encouraging me to share my story!

Love these pics, Debbie... and the story. You are both adorable... still are! DH and I met in college - although he and his brothers went to Jesuit high school same as my brother and I had gone to some Jesuit dances, but we didn't meet until LSU. Actually I was dating someone he worked with and he was dating my room-mate when we met.

Such a beautiful love story, Debbie! Gorgeous photos of you and your husband on your wedding day. Your dress and veil are beautiful. Your husband scrubbed up rather well, too. =) I love that you two, are as in love and devoted to each other today as you were 43 years ago. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful story. As for the song 'Perfect'; it is a favourite of mine. Have you heard the rendition of Ed Sheeran singing it with Andrea Bocelli?? It is lovely.

That is such a beautiful love story!! My sister, Nita, is married to Mike who has always been a very shy man. She had to take the lead in asking him out and she was the one who proposed marriage! They are such a great match and so happy together!
LOVED seeing you at 19!!!! Always beautiful - then and now!

Thank you for sharing this Debbie. Your love story is so romantic, and you two were soulmates from the start, with a little of a 'go-get-him-girl’ attitude, loved that! I am smiling! You two were and still are the cutest couple! Loved the photos, your dress was magical. Wishing you A Very Happy Wedding Anniversary!

What a sweet romance. You two look so young in the photos, well, 19 is young. Long term marriages can have a special beauty, like yours does. My hubby and I were married 45 fulfilling years.

That is a beautiful story of how you and your hubby finally got to go out. It is funny when a girl really likes a guy asks him out then turns us down. But in the end you were meant to be.

I always enjoy learning one's love story. In fact, it is a question I often ask when getting to know new friends.
There's so much to be said about marrying young so you can grow together. Certainly worked for my marriage as well!

I am thrilled that you told your story; I loved it. The photos are adorable. I think it is amazing how your romance went. Way to go girl! I met my husband in Driver's training and we didn't stare to date until our junior year. We went to the University of Utah for almost a year and then he left on a mission for our faith. Two years later we married three months after he got home.
Thanks for sharing your story; it was one of the best ever!
Sending hugs to you two!

Oh my goodness your two were adorable back then too, and wow what a wonderful experience we share, I didn't meet my hubby there but my first real job (after babysitting) was at Burger Chef! Most everyone here in Minnesota look funny when I mention it, I was born and raised in Michigan and we had Burger King too, but Burger Chef was a big deal right along with McDonalds!
