Shrek The Musical

I have written before about the live shows we attend at a local arts theater.
On Saturday the cast at The Algonquin Theater performed
- Shrek The Musical -
We had tickets for the 2 p.m show on Saturday.
We like these matinees, it's a lot easier for the hubs to stay awake.
The show was magnificent.
Pictures were not allowed during the show but they were allowed during the curtain call.

After the show we went for pizza and it was drizzling.
When we got to the restaurant, no rain...when we left after we finished eating, no rain.
As we were walking to the car, I said, "WoW we really lucked out with the rain".
The minute I got those words out of my mouth it really came down in buckets...
we got soaked running to the car.
I mention this part of the evening because a lot of rain and big storms were forecasted for Saturday.
It was fun, we did not have any "pina coladas", but it was fun just the same.

When we got home, the skies really opened up and we had torrential rain.

I was so happy to be home, I enjoy a good storm more when I am home and cozy!

Asbury Park Color and Light Festival

"Welcome The World - Special World Cup Edition"
of the color and light festival in digital art and projection mapping.
Right on the boardwalk of the historic seaside town of Asbury Park, NJ.
The facade of this iconic boardwalk architecture
was transformed into a tapestry of light, sound, and creativity.

This was amazing.

It was a rotating, 15 minute show...much of it with direct correlation to the seaside town.
It was really wonderful!
Would I go again...that is a big fat "no".
It was so crowded and it took us a least 30 minutes to find a parking space.
Spaces opened up as we circled around, but luck was not on our side.
It is disappointing when you live here, less than 30 minutes away, and can't enjoy these special festivals.
There were no provisions made for handicapped people, I used my chair and found people to be very rude.
I never say that...but it is true.
Of course the hubs helped me, and one woman who really tried to clear the way
and put on the flashlight on her phone to light the boardwalk.
Sad there were not better provisions for those who need it.

Thank you Asbury Park, the show was creative, colorful and vibrant...
and the background music was very well done.

There are a lot more picture...I will share them in a few days.

Saturday Critters #657

I don't have much to share today but I always try to support Eileen.
This is Dale, there is a Chip but Dale chases him away.
I always leave seeds and water for him.

We have not been outside too much...

We are seeing and smelling a lot of smoke from the fires in Canada.
Our air quality has been poor...
making staying indoors even more important.

Our thoughts are with the people of Canada, the wildfires there are so serious,
I hope everyone is ok.

Belmar's Sand Castle Contest

Every year it is on the summer bucket list...
The Belmar NJ Sandcastle Contest
This annual event was held on this past Wednesday and it was 104 degrees,
we didn't go.
I am really sad to have missed it but sweating on the beach,
melting into the sand, would not qualify as a sandcastle.
These pictures are from several of the years we did attend, I had these images saved on my computer.

Belmar shared some pictures of this years entries, if you are interested you can find those pictures here.
If you have a favorite, mention it in the comments...mine is the second!

I Want To Love The Summer...

really I do...but,
I am not really enjoying the unbearable heat and humidity this summer.
It drains my soul in every way possible and does it in no time at all.
It is impossible for me to spend any length of time outdoors, even with this beautiful pool.

It looks lovely, I know, but it is a lot of work, and the hubs has been doing all of it.
The only way I can stay cool in the pool is if I am completely under water.
I feel so much guilt that we don't use it more,
it is lovely with a breathtaking view of the river we live on.

My Hydrangea are sporting their second blooms, these flowers are from several different plants.
To the left, on the table, are rocks my niece gave me from New Zealand,
they are always right there in that spot.
They are "purplish", you can't tell that in the pictures.

We have been eating a lot of food like this this summer.
Fresh, summer foods that are light and easy.

We really like cold pasta salad and I make it often in the summer.
I add red onion, red pepper and lot's of dill and green onions from my garden.

The ingredients...

the recipe card I use for the Pasta Salad, in case you would like to try it.
I do not add chicken to mine.
You can see the recipe card is well loved, I have made this so many times.

I have been making these eggs for breakfast.
I don't usually like scrambled eggs, but this is different, more like a fluffy omelet.
Made in the microwave with just an egg and mayonnaise, this is delicious and ready in 50 seconds.
The link to the recipe is here.
I always top mine with "Everything But The Bagel" Seasoning.

We are so lucky to live by the shore, fresh seafood is always available.
We really love the fried shrimp, with fresh cut fries at Shore Fresh.
The also have the best new England Clam Chowder.

We are in the middle of a heat wave here at the Jersey Shore...

it was 104 degrees here yesterday.
I went outside to water the garden and snap a few pictures.
I'll share how the garden is growing tomorrow.
If I haven't melted, thank goodness for air conditioning!
