The Giraffe At Great Adventure

Their are so many giraffe here at Great Adventure, they are my favorite animal in the jungle.
They are the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant on earth.

A few fun facts...
A giraffe's neck is too short to reach the ground.
Giraffe's spend most of their life standing, they give birth standing and sleep standing,
they only need 5 - 30 minutes of sleep in a 24 hour period.
A giraffe only needs to drink once every few days.
They can run as fast as 35 miles per hour.

- always be yourself, unless you can be a giraffe, then always be a giraffe -

What interesting fun facts! Giraffes sure are odd creatures when you really take the time to look at them. Perfectly developed for the environment that they live in.

I love the quote. Great photos. Hard to believe they are able to survive the wild. They look so delicate.

Cute tall critters! I just read about a midwestern zoo (Wichita?) that just had a baby giraffe that is all brown with no spots. Linda in Kansas

Thank you for these pictures. I love giraffes. They are my absolute favourite. Did you know that they also have the same amount of neck bones as humans?

They're so elegant -- wonderful eyes. We saw a very pregnant giraffe once on the San Diego Zoo -- we were on a California vacation with our kids -- that was before the Internet let alone webcams and for years I wondered how she did but never was able to find out. (I guess I still wonder since I remember it well after all those years.)
