The Red Dragonfly?

They say it is good luck to see a Dragonfly...

When I first viewed and photographed this Dragonfly, I was sure it was red...
But Red Dragonflies are widespread in southern parts of Europe, Ireland and Britain.
And since I was not in Europe yesterday, I went with...it must be orange.

I did a little research on,
you guessed it, Google, and my pictures did not look like an orange dragonfly, it still looked red.
It looks like pictures presented of a Male Red-Veined Darter dragonfly.

The Japanese consider dragonflies to be very sacred, offering a symbol of
courage, strength and happiness.
American Indians believe dragonflies can,
"bring a time of rejuvenation after a long period of trial and hardship"!

This is a different picture, getting a little closer in, showing a little more detail.
I have 10 pictures, all look about the same, it never really moved...I found that odd.
Maybe it flew here from Europe and was exhausted.
If anyone can assist in solving the mystery, please share your thoughts in the comments!

- spread your fairy wings and start to fly -

The dragonfly is a legendary critter. Many tales are about it, also esoteric: his flight show you the way (the symbolic way= and only you can understand what she means. It depends by your knowledge of the place, the hour, the moment of your life and many other things that only you can know.

It could have come over on a ship maybe or they have moved here slowly and we just now see them.

Debbie - I am not a dragonfly expert, so I won't be able to help you there. We have seen so many dragonflies this summer around the house, so I must be one of the luckiest people on earth!

With so much moving across the oceans in containers these days, I wonder did it come out of a shipping container? It is how several species of animals have come to this island.

I was going to suggest the conclusion you came to all by yourself (LOL, just like my children, you can think and do completely without me!))). Well, whether it’s a rare visitor from overseas or a color variety of an orange one, I just Know it will be lucky for you (and I also really truly know you take wonderful photos!).

What a pretty dragonfly! We have a green one that flies around our backyard at times. I do enjoy watching it do so! I hope if you find out more info about the red dragonfly you share it with us as I have never heard of it before, just the green colored one.

We see what we think are red dragon flies here in Texas - but they may really be orange. Look red to me, though!

Hello,
It is a pretty dragonfly, great photos. Maybe this dragonfly had a boat ride across the ocean? I hope the dragonfly has brought you luck. Take care, enjoy your day!

We see red dragonflies here in Texas... and blue damselflies too. I hope the Indian legend is true as to "bring a time of rejuvenation after a long period of trial and hardship"! We could use this.

Although I was pleased to see it, I saw a very ordinary dragonfly today.
The one you've photographed here is amazing.

Here in the UK, we've been hearing a lot about the terrible weather near to you, hope you are ok.

All the best Jan

It looks similar to Neon, Flame, or Carmine Skimmers found in the southwest part of the country, though I can't say that it's actually any of those. Whatever it is, it's beautiful!
