Saturday Critters ~ 323 ~

A brief ride to Lake of the Lilies yesterday turned out to be slightly disappointing.
It started out great,
as we pulled up, the hubs spotted three Killdeer right away.
I had not seen them all winter and I was excited to snap some pictures.
Killdeer are boldly marked, long legged and are quite a noisy plover.
I saw three, I have seen them here before and I usually see them in pairs.
They feed in typical plover manner,
running at high speed for a short distance, then pausing briefly to pick up food from the ground.

Here is a good look at a Killdeers back feathers, they are beautiful.

Everyone else was swimming/sleeping, mostly sleeping in the "untouchable" part of the lake.
Now...if I could just get in to one of those backyards...

I’ve never seen killdeer though they visit here. Such bold markings and so pretty. Those ducks with their heads tucked under their wings are teasing you, Debbie.

Perhaps you could knock on one of those doors and sweetly ask if you can take up residence, in the yard, for just a bit. =) The Killdeer is pretty isn't it. Gorgeous feathers. I love the photo of the pretty fellow taking a step...such an amazing photo!

A few years back, I had a Killdeer make her nest in my garden. Well, forget about weeding that section. Her little dance to distract me from her nest...the male dive bomb on my head...it was crazy. As soon as they hatched, off they went into the field.

Those are gorgeous killdeer photos! Love the eyes and the blue water behind them in some of the shots. So it wasn't a total loss even though the others were disinterested in cooperating!

My favorites are the one with his leg in the air and the first one where he looks so fluffy and soft.

I’d be happy with the killdeer, especially if I got such good photos of it!

Oh aren't they little cuties, I haven't seen those before, very cool markings and you got such great close up of their feathers!!
Isn't that the way it goes they are usually somewhere that is hard to get at. We went out yesterday because it was so nice and all we got was seagulls, a guy told us about an eagle but no such luck finding it when we got down to the area he was mentioning it was at.
