Saturday Critters ~ 320 ~

I have been seeing more than usual Mourning Doves this winter.
They are generally slim-bodied, but during the winter they puff out - a lot.
They are ground feeders,
but in the past 6 months, they have been eating from the thistle feeder.
They utter a series of mournful, hooting, cooing calls,
I see the Mourning Doves year round.

I photographed this adorable Carolina Wren on the same day.
This wren is well marked and easy to identify.
This wren is also indifferent to, or sometimes curious about human observers.
This small bird is very vocal, chirpy...I often hear it before I see it.
I see the Carolina Wren year round,
but much more in the summer.

Hello Debbie, The Doves and the Carolina Wren are both sweet birds. I have a few Mourning Doves, not many in my yard. They seem very shy and take off if they see me. Your photos are beautiful. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend! PS, thank you for the visit and comment today.

Beautiful! We sometimes have more doves than any other bird. I jokingly refer to them as pigeons. Love the wrens! They're quite loud for such little birds.

Beautiful pictures . I see the Mourning Doves in summer and we have the House Wren, also in summer. He is very vocal as well.

Debbie - exciting photos. Our doves leave in the winter - too cold for them? I puff out too when it's cold - but it's probably the extra layers!

Lovely shots and they are certainly puffed up.

Puffed up and proud by the looks of it. Doves conjure up such good feelings that are all about world peace, no less. :)

I do like the Doves but the Carolina Wren is my favourite here today :)

All the best Jan

I read somewhere that mourning doves are the most prevalent of all North American birds. It’s a wonder to me because we Once saw a nest of them in the low porch eaves of an old marina where we were staying... their nest was really sloppy, just a bunch of stuff scattered in a messy stack. They must really be survivors! . I don’t get tired of them ever though! Beautiful Carolina wren!

Oh Debbie these are one of my most favorite birds. They have the prettiest song too, it's just so relaxing to listen to them. If you're gaining more, possibly or not but for the lives of many Mourning Doves our Minnesota doves should pack up and fly away as Minnesota reinstated hunting for mourning doves again in 2004.

You know I haven't seen to many of my mourning doves here lately, I think it is because our deck seems to be the place for the cats in the neighborhood to hang out.
I love the pics of the wren, quite the beauty!
