Forcing Paperwhites In Winter

 You may remember reading about my "need" for Paperwhite Bulbs.

I usually get the bulbs when we visit Longwood Gardens.

 Then when they bloom... the flowers and aroma evoke the memory of that visit there.

This year the garden shop was packed when we were there, so we skipped our usual visit.

Thus the need to visit the new garden center close by

to get the bulbs and I needed wanted another Christmas Cactus.

I picked up 10 Paperwhite bulbs.

I plant paperwhite bulbs every year and have this pot filled with rocks that I use.

I always use rocks to plant mine.

The medium doesn't really matter, it's purpose is to hold the bulbs in place.

Once the bulbs are placed and secure, just add enough water to cover 3/4 of the bulb.

Here is the Christmas Cactus I purchased.

The pot had two plants in it, half of the flowers will be light pink, the other half will be dark pink.

I put the new cactus in this pot which I also purchased at the garden center.

Kalanchoe

It is a tropical succulent that blooms often when cared for properly.

It is my favorite house plant...

planted in my favorite homemade pot that I purchased at a craft show a few years ago.

The blooms are gorgeous with more coming. 

With proper care, this perennial plant, returns year after year.
