The Big Project Reveal...

We are getting hard wood floors...
we probably "needed" them BUT there was an "incident" involving paint...
that ended up sealing the deal on that.
One can of oil based paint, fell...it exploded and sprayed everywhere...
on the carpet, on the walls, on the television,
the paint was everywhere.
The hubs got a lot of it cleaned up, but the carpet could not be cleaned.
Now we are preparing to have hardwood floors installed.
Seems simple, right?
It feels like a lifetime getting things ready and the biggest task was cleaning out the china cabinet.
We use the dining room as a home office and I felt this was a great time to upgrade it to that completely.
So the china cabinet is going, out the door that is...

it had to be cleaned out of course, and emptying it took forever.
It wasn't just the china and the special keepsakes on the shelves,
there are 6 drawers that held a variety of things, things I had forgotten about,
I went though each, one at a time.

The same with this cabinet, it is empty now.
This held holiday paper plates, napkins, name card holders, poppers...most I kept.

In this half full box are the items I am keeping from both cabinets.
I really pared things down.
Most of these items will go in the new cabinet.

This will be my before picture...
When the time comes, I will be able to share a before and after.

I picked out the following items to replace the china cabinet...

this secretary desk in the middle...

and one of these cabinets on each side of the above desk.
This will end up being about the same size as the china cabinet, but not as deep.
It should go together like one big piece.
These items are from Ballard Designs.

This table from Pottery Barn in Seadrift
(Pottery Barn does not let you copy pictures of their furniture)
will replace the table I have now and be perfect for the hubs and I to work from.

The paint also got on the blinds, so I had to pick out new blinds for both rooms so everything is cohesive.
The next step is to remove all the old furniture, get the new blinds installed,
and then we will be ready for the new floors.
This was a ton of work for me, not just the cleaning out part, but the picking everything out part.

And, on a completely different note, we need a new kitchen faucet and sink,
we went and looked and I think I have decided on those!

This is why I have not had any time for fun!

Hello,
I am sure you will love the new hardwood floors. It is a big project emptying cabinets and packing away everything. I think it is fun picking out all your new things. I hope some fun times are going to happen soon. Take care, have a happy weekend!

Debbie, it will be fun watching your new room appear. Our daughter graduated with a degree in Interior Design and is constantly changing things, painting, redoing her rooms. We never change anything... or almost never. But we did get rid of carpet years ago and all our floors are hardwood, ceramic tile, brick, or slate.

That does sounds like a big undertaking but I can't wait to see the after pictures, it sounds like it will be very cool. Wow what a mess that must have been to clean all that up. Bet you will be happy to have it all done and back in order!

OH my gosh....what a mess I am sure that was...and what a BIG china cabinet! The great thing about items like that, the storage! I love storage. Can't wait to see the after pics.

Oh wow! A lot going on Debbie. I love hardwood floors; we have some in the older part of this house that was built in l948. Almost as old as I am.

Love the new cabinets, pretty and fresh! I know you'll be so happy when it all comes back together. Hope you're taking time to rest though!

xoxo

That's a lot of work and it is exhausting!!! Last year we got new carpeting and the year before that new kitchen counters. Both involved SO MUCH WORK!
This year my project is the window wall offset in the den and it will take some work but not nearly as invasive as the last two projects. And next year I will get new carpet in the den which is wide enough that we can move furniture to one side and then the other - including the baby grand piano!
I am looking forward to your AFTER photos!!

It is so often the preparation that goes on before the work commences that can take time!
I'm sure your new floor will look great.

All the best Jan
