The Eastern Tiger Swallowtail

 Good afternoon friends...
I have been so busy these last few days, nothing good to write about just boring, necessary things.

Butterflies are a big part of my life,
finding the caterpillars, feeding and caring for them through each stage then setting them free.
Right now I am raising Black Swallowtails.
In mid June, I started to see Monarchs on my butterfly bushes.
I was so happy to see them,
because as many of you already know, the Monarch is now considered endangered.
Next year, I am going to raise Monarchs to help with their current status.

This past Friday, I saw and photographed 2 Eastern Tiger Swallowtails.
This might be a male, they have less blue but with these pictures, I'm not sure.

This next one may be a female, they usually have more blue.

If you are interested in raising butterflies at home, this site
has some great information about getting started.

Another good site about raising Monarchs is here.

- until you spread your wings, you will have no idea how far you can fly -

Great photos. I didn’t realize you could tell the males and females apart.

Thank you, thank you Debbie, for helping with the butterflies. I love them. this year I have not seen as many as previous years. I do not know if the horrid heat has much to do with that. Love seeing your great photos. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

Hello Debbie,

Your butterfly images are just beautiful. My Monarch sightings are few and far between. I wish I saw more Monarchs here, I do see a lot of the Swallowtails.
Take care, enjoy your day!

And, you are a master photographer, Debbie. I've missed you and a few others - been too busy. Hoping that will change soon. :)

that sounds like fun but having two cats keep me more than busy. That is so neat that you are helping them get on their way! I will have to remember the girls have more blue :)
