Thinking About Summers At The Shore...

I am still in rehab, not for a drug addition, but to help my legs get stronger so I can go home.
While here, I have had a lot of time to think about some things.

When I was a young girl, summers were focused on a few special things.

We went to the beach in Seaside almost every day!
I loved the beach and looking for sea glass most days.
So much of my collection is from when I was much younger.

We ate corn on the cob almost every day...
We still eat corn a lot, it has to be from Delicious Orchard, they have the best corn!

Ice Cream was important too...

I am not a huge fan of ice cream,
but this coffee ice cream from Point Creamery is awesome.
It has nuts and swirls of chocolate, it is so good.

When I get discharged from here, I may stop for ice cream on the way home!

We had a "Mr. Softy" Truck that always came around the neighborhood.
My parents said they could not afford it.
I can still hear the jingle if I close my eyes, it was soft ice cream and it was the best.

We went to the boardwalk one night every summer, and I remember looking forward to that night.

Fun summers at the Jersey Shore!

Great childhood memories! What a fantastic place to spend summers too! Yum with the corn on the cob. I can never get enough of it in the summer myself! I still think some days when I hear the ice cream trunk going down our street to run out and buy a treat from it. We were allowed a treat when I was growing up maybe once a month from the ice cream trunk but frequented the local ice cream shop a lot during the not summer months.

Hopefully your legs will build up strength and you'll be home in a jiffy!

Debbie, we are so fortunate to have had the Jersey Shore as our playground to grow up in. I always reminisce picking blueberries and growing tomatoes as well. Looking forward to this as I am visiting now.
Please get better soon.

Here in Australia, we had a 'Mr Whippy' soft ice cream truck doing the rounds of our neighbourhood every afternoon. Doesn't happen anymore. Your childhood memories sound wonderful, Debbie. Hope those legs get stronger with each day and you are back home soon. Take care.

I imagine you have had time to think, such great memories you have of your childhood. We could only get ice cream from the truck twice in the summer because my parents couldn't afford it, I think that makes it that more special.
Hope that your legs are getting stronger each and every day!!

I hope that your rehab gets the job done quickly and that you get to go home, stronger, soon. Thanks for sharing your memories with us. Yours are very different from mine, but they make me remember my childhood, too. We didn't have an ice cream truck in my neighborhood, but had someone who had bought a sno-cone machine, put it in the bed of a pickup truck, filled the truck with bottles of flavoring to pour over the ice and sold them for a dime. Without air conditioning at home, it was a real treat to have something cold.

That first picture of the beach and the surf is so wonderful. I want to be there. Thanks for sharing it. I too love corn on the cob... and know how good fresh corn (straight from the field) can be. We didn't have an ice-cream truck (or if we did, I don't remember it). But we did have a taffy wagon pulled by an old horse in New Orleans. The taffy was like 5-cents and it was pink! I do remember that (and this probably really dates me).

Thanks for sharing some memories from your childhood.
I too can remember the ice cream van coming round and the tune it played, so many of us would rush out into the street!
Yum, those ice creams were always so delicious :)

I do hope that rehab is making your legs stronger each day.
My good wishes.

All the best Jan

Wonderful summer memories. I have some similar memories: the beach every day with mom, looking for things on the shoreline and an ice cream in late afternoon.
I do hope you get well soon.

Thanks for sharing these memories of your youth; I loved reading them. It looks like the Jersey Shore has always been a fun place.
I can't imagine how much fun it would be to go to the beach everyday. As a young girl, I went to my hometown's swimming place almost everyday and rode my bike all over the place too.
I loved your Ice-cream thoughts too. I do love Ice cream and my Grandpa had business, called Ideal Dairy and serve Ice Cream. To this day, when we are in Richfield, we get Ice Cream at the Ideal Dairy. It's a favorite memory and place.
Blessings and hugs sweet friend! Get those legs working again soon.

That coffee ice cream sounds delicious. I remember running outside for the ice cream truck when I was a child, and my children doing the same. We have a boardwalk here in my city too, on the west coast. I would like to visit it again, it is open again.
