The Silver Spotted Skipper

Silver-spotted Skipper

on the new butterfly bush that the hubs planted, it is doing well.

There are more than 3,000 kinds of Skippers.
They are distinguished from true butterflies by the antennae,
which are further apart at the base and end in pointed, curved clubs.

These are my "go to" books and leaflets, when I want to identify or read about a moth or butterfly.

Not quite a butterfly, not quite a moth...if you ever watch a skipper,
you will know how it got it's name!

Silver-spotted Skippers are common here at this time of the year. I highly recommend the Kauffman guide for butterflies.

thanks david, i will have to look for that guide, i prefer books over google for things like this!!! they are quick little buggers, difficult to photograph!!

david (above) had a good suggestion. the butterfly population, in my area, has really increased this year. i still have pupa and some caterpillars, indoors (25 total), they should be coming to life soon!!

Oh cool, don't know if I have seen one of those before. I was talking to Greg about posting what I thought was a butterfly and he said well I am not sure if it is a moth or butterfly, I said oh great, I have some bird books now but no butterfly books . Maybe I will have to just post and have you tell me what it is, LOL!

How beautiful!!! I've never heard that name before.

I'm a huge butterfly fan. We are planning to move to the West Indies in the next couple of years. I can't wait to see all the butterflies there, with their amazing colors.πŸŒΌπŸπŸŽ€

Have a super week, πŸ˜‚
