The "garden" needs lots of attention and lots of watering.
She is doing well and I am seeing a lot of growth.
Here's the big picture...
I am going to make a "bottle tree" with the branch that's
hanging out in the purple watering can.
I have yet to get to that.

I can't express enough how excited I am about this bag,
and about growing potatoes.
We have planted 2 layers so far and they seem to be doing really well.
This is my first year with potatoes so I don't really know
what to expect, but I have a really good feeling!

This is a Patio Tomato Plant,
we purchased it from the garden center just like this for $ 14.99.
I am excited to see how it does verses the plants I started from seeds.
So far, really good.

3 Cucumber plants in one pot,
we purchased these already started and they have tripled in size.
The plant I started with seeds is in the back.
Beefsteak Tomato, doing very well,

I am very disappointed with this garden,
the plants are healthy but they are not growing.
They are producing lots of sweet peppers.

a first for me but I'm pretty sure all I have there is weed.

The first one came indoors on July 27, 2008,
and for the month of August,
we pretty much picked what you see, every time we had a harvest.
It was a great first year!!

I will add my complaints with yours regarding the heat! I just told my husband for the 100th time that I hate summer! Give me cold any day! Your garden is lovely on your deck. Such creative ways to grow veggies. I don't garden. My excuse is the heat, but I really just don't want to!
Well, don't you have a dalring garden, dear Debbie! My husband and I usually plant one, but unfortunately with everything that was and is going on we never got the seeds into the ground....kind of sad :(

Your harvests look great. There's nothing better than home-grown veggies and herbs.
We like the idea of potatoes in a bag! Might try that next year. The gardens here are slow to start, but we planted later due to frost. No frost now, it's hot and humid, and I HATE it. (beep likes it though).

It's a good feeling to plant & watch it grow it feels like you accomplished something specially the vegetables. Your garden looks healthy Debbie. How my garden grows well I planted tomatoes, summer squash, pickling cucumbers like yours, eggplants, first time ever I planted zucchini, geeen yellow & orange bell peppers but the peppers plants look bad think the grasshoppers eating the leaves have to use 7 dust. My basil looks like a bush I had to repot it 3 times in larger pots. I enjoyed this post today. I could talk about gardening all day but I better get back to work.

My cucumbers are going like gangbusters, but the flowers don't look like they're turning into anything. I have bell peppers too, but they are losing leaves in all this rain. It's my first year to garden, so I don't know what to expect. My satsuma trees that I have ignored are laden down with so much fruit, they're touching the ground. Enjoyed reading about your gardening experience so far. Love those burlap bags you are using for herbs. Very nice!
You will love those fresh dug potatoes although we never grew them in a bag. We have been just too busy to plant ANY vegetables this year...sad to say...:)JP
I love seeing what you have growing in your garden, Everything looks great. I like gardening just because it is so much fun to experiment. My garden is going crazy. I am so glad mine is so small this year. I think I enjoy it much more.

Your garden is looking very productive; I like the basil and dill in the bags, and your potatoes. Keep covering them so there is only about 3 inches of leaves above the soil. The first time I grew them I felt like a successful peasant lady when I dug them up.

I love your container garden! So fun to plant a potato in a bag. Can't wait to see how that turns out. Looks great so far. I tried planting them in a tire (and then stacking another old tire on top when it grows...same concept, but not nearly as cute!), and sometimes plant several rows of potatoes. This year I planted none. Now I wish I had planted even a couple, just for those tiny red baby potatoes.

I like the unique way you garden. I've always thought gardening was way more work then I want to tackle but this looks like fun.
Actually, thanks to you my tomatoes are doing great. I did plant peppers, zucchini and squash in a little area in front of the patio today. I hope they do well. I really would like to try your potato garden idea.
