Praying Mantis

I think he is praying and smiling...I am also.

Praying Mantis have triangular heads,
poised on a long "neck", or elongated thorax.

These are typically green or brown,
this guy was both!!

Mantis can turn their heads 180 degrees to scan their surroundings!!

The adult female sometimes eats her mate,
just after - or even during - mating!!
Now that's interesting!!

These photo's were taken on October 6, 2011, during a visit to the Manasquan Reservoir.

I am having an exacerbation of my Multiple Sclerosis,

I've had two seizures and my legs are not working,
otherwise, I am dandy!!

Dear, dear Debbie: First off, these photos are AMAZING! I've never thought of them as cute until seeing YOUR photos!

More importantly...take good care of yourself, hon. Wish I could pop on by to help you. I know you're in good hands with your hubby but still. Sending you hugs and prayers!

An amazing set of pictures, Debbie! I loved the close up of her face, but the idea of eating her mate is mean, isn't it?

I can only think of an exciting moment of: "Ohh, you are sooo good I could eat you!" and then: bingo! She does it!

I pray that you feel better soon!

I was thinking about you and wondering if you might be having something going on. Well, other than those things I am glad you are just dandy.

Our Praying Mantis population is going great guns right now as I see the females looking to lay eggs.
The sure get aggressive when they are like that. They just want to take me on. Silly bugs!

I will be praying for you and your recovery.

Hi Debbie,
I KNEW something was happening, I hadn't seen a post here in a couple of days. I am so so sorry to hear that the MonSter has reared it's ugly head. Are you going to try steroids? You are in my prayers and thoughts, and I hope the relapse subsides quickly.
*hugs*
And...that is the happiest praying mantis I have ever seen.

Love the Praying Mantis series! I noticed a lot of these on our property a couple of weeks ago. They really are fascinating insects. Great photographs! I especially favor the face close-ups.

My thoughts are with you ...

Hi Debbie, I'm so sorry you aren't feeling very good now. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers for this to end and for you to be back to your old self! I like your praying mantis. I had one trying to climb my window a couple of weeks ago, but he slipped and fell off! I missed getting his photo, he fell before I could get the camera ready.
(((hugs)))

Debbie,
This was fun walking down memory lane. Happy Blogoversary! The pictures of the praying mantis are amazing.
I have copied the gooey butter cake recipe into my recipe file and look forward to making it someday.
You continue to amaze me through your adversities you still manage to brighten up the day for so many friends and followers.
I hope this little set back is short-lived and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
I love, love, love my note cards.
