The New Calendar

I have read that it is "old fashioned" to use a paper calendar,
that you are out of the loop if you use one.
But I do, do you?

I purchased the 2021 version of this calendar on-line last year.
Showing it here
I vowed to make the featured recipe each month,
then share pictures and the recipe here.
That did not go as planned for a variety of reasons.
The first reason...I was sure we would dislike the end result.
Second...I was away from home last summer,
either in the hospital or rehabilation...
once home, I was not walking.
Third...I did not have the ingredients on hand and some were hard to find.
Buttermilk, for instance,
was never available on my home shopping site??
So long story long, it was a bust.

I purchased the calendar again this year and I am going to try again,
because it sounds fun and I will need things to write about.

January's recipe White Minestrone,
sound delicious and we are soup people,
so I will definitely be trying that.

Hello,
It is a cute calendar, I like trying new recipes. Soup is one of my favorite meals too. Take care, have a happy day!

I have a calendar sent to me every year from my home town from a dear friend. It shows pictures that I remember well and I love it. Your calendar looks wonderful! We are soup people here too. Happy cooking! :)

Yes indeed I use paper calendars and would be lost without them.

We still like having a calendar hanging in the utility room by the back door. It's good for checking when the moon is full! heehee! Love the recipes. You can add a little lemon juice to whole milk and use it instead of buttermilk. Not quite as good but will work in a pinch! Hugs!

A very beautiful calendar. I also use the paper calendars.
The language of the word "minestrone" sounds familiar to me.....

I do too. It hangs on the inside of bread cabinet. I like to be able to see what's coming, appointments, etc. 😀

Soup is such wonderful comfort food. There is seafood chowder on our menu this week.

I hope this year goes much better for you. Just a note, I was told long ago that to make buttermilk all you do is add a teaspoon or so of vinegar to a cup of milk. This is what I use, as I never have buttermilk at home.

I don't keep buttermilk on hand, either! But I do so love paper calendars!! I have two at home and one here at the ranch plus I use my diary journal every single day. I plan our life out by the month and then put the things on Louis Dean's calendar. What with bee meetings, doctor appointments, things to do, places to go and people to see, the small blocks fill up in no time. This month we are going to skip the second bee meeting this month as we will go to Snyder to visit Chandy, Louis Dean's granddaughter, for her birthday. That's a pretty long trip for us - about 5 hours + - so we don't go very often.
I'm making stew in the crock ppot for tonight. I love soup year round and one dish things. Easy peasy down here at the ranch.

We wouldn't know what to do without our calendar!

Good luck with the recipes this year. I am not much of a soup person. Made stew the other day, Hubby loved it, it was ok but I wouldn't rush to have it again, give me a good roast and I am happy :)

Debbie - I don't think it's old-fashioned at all! I use a planner - I need the physical paper between my hands, to see my to do list and to have plenty of room to write things down! I love your idea for how to use your calendar, and I wish you better luck with it in 2022! Happy New Year!

Random fact about buttermilk...if you add a small amount of white vinegar to milk and let it sit on the counter while you are working on the recipe, it can be used to substitute for buttermilk. I have a family recipe that calls for buttermilk and we usually just do it this way.

I do enjoy hot soup on a cold day. I do enjoy a paper calendar. In fact, I'm thinking about going back to a Daytimer, so I can be more organized. I put scheduled items on my phone, but sometimes forget to look at it. I'm really random without a schedule to look at.
Sending hugs for this one!

Calendars do look nice but I tend to use a diary.

All the best Jan
