Momma Swan

When we were driving to Cattus Island Park on Sunday,
I spotted a swan sitting on a nest.
She was off in the distance, on the other side of the road.
We wrote ourselves a note
to stop when we were done at the park.
* heaven knows we would never remember on our own *
There was no shoulder on the road,
no way to get pictures so I did what my sister does,
I knocked on the peoples door and asked if I could go in to their back yard.
A sweet elderly gentleman answered the door and said,
why yes, of course you can.

Here's what I was able to see from nice man's backyard...

She was awake at first...

but quickly curled up to rest.

Pappa was there to keep watch over her.

I was not thrilled with my pictures and there was a lot of grass blocking her from that angle.
It was the hubs idea to stop on the highway, put the flashers on and block one lane...

so I could get this picture.
I love how safe she feels with papa watching over her.
I love that she is keeping her eggs protected until they are ready to hatch.
Nice, kind man in the house said she had been there for five weeks,
I will go back!!

These photos were well worth the effort you went to get them. Don't worry about the grass that got in the way. It gave me the sense of how well she was concealed.

Aww this is sweet! I love how Papa swan keeps watch so Mama swan can rest. I agreed with Andy, the grass helps set the scene. And I love how Chuck is always game to help you get your shot!

They hide the nest very well...at least from one side! It was very nice of him, indeed, to let you take photographs. Love that wingspread display!

Wow it is amazing you spotted her, that is such a cool picture you got with his wings all extended like that. How sweet of that man to let you go in his backyard to get a picture. There are so many times Greg will see something but there is no where to pull over, it about makes him sick. Great shots!
Have a great weekend!

Beautiful shots! Glad you got a nice man, instead of a crabby one.

When you get all the photos you want, you should frame a couple of 5x7 and give to the nice man.

That is so sweet of that man to allow you to get pictures from his yard. Most people are kind like that.

Very impressive photos of the Swan. Of course, the last one is spectaular and I love the one of Pappa guarding her. I hope you do get some photos of the little swans when they hatch. I think it is so cute that you asked the older gentlemen if you could go in his yard to take the photos. You are amazing! Sending loving thoughts your way~
