Saturday's Critters #422

We generally have a lot of Mute Swans in the lakes in this area.
During the winter they fly south as do many of the larger water fowl.

I saw one pair at

Lake Como on Wednesday.

One of the two appeared to have a broken wing and was struggling significantly in the water.
I wondered if the pair had stayed here because that one was unable to fly...
honoring the mate because swans mate for life.
Although divorce can occur, it is rare, only common if nesting failure occurs!

Thes images are not crisp clear, as the swan did not stop moving.

This one was fine.
Swans are very similar in appearance and difficult to tell apart,
the bill/basal knob is smaller in the female.

- when reality hurts, make sure to soar above the dream-stained sky -

Gorgeous swan pictures. I sure hope that one is not too injured and heals quickly.

Sorry for the poor injured swan. I hope he gets well soon.
In Italy we have a Lake of Como too.
Have a great week end.

Gorgeous creatures! The colour is striking! The third photo is my favourite with the individual water droplets and the wing vertical. Incredible photos!

That's unfortunate and certainly a good reason why those two haven't left. Beautiful photos, nonetheless!

They are beautiful and that last quote is a good one. It sure is hard to soar sometimes! Enjoy your weekend. Stay warm!

Fabulous Debbie, amazing photos of such a majestic bird. I do hope the swan can heal and glad its mate is helping. Perhaps the wildlife people already have an eye on it.

I hope it is safely able to recover but its mate is there to protect it from harm.

Oh my that would be so sad if it's wing is damaged, hopefully it was just taking a weird bath :)
that is sweet if the other is staying with it so it doesn't have to be alone.
