Take Time To Smell The Flowers

The Gray Catbirds have returned...
I heard them first, I knew they were here, sitting in the tree,
one glance, and yes, there they were.
It's been a long Winter and I have missed them.
Their beautiful song, their meow call and their calm nature.
My bird book says they are here year round, but I never see them during the Winter.

They sport a gray body with a little black cap.
They have a small reddish brown patch under the base of their tail,
you can see it here.
They are know to mimic the songs of other birds but when I hear them,
I almost always just hear their meow call.

Welcome back...welcome home!!

Such a wonderful bird. it is the same family as Mockingbirds and is a very proficient mimic. It should be returning here any day now and we are finally getting weather that looks like spring. A catbird chortling in the undergrowth will enliven our walks.

Pretty sure we don't have those birds here in TN....so pretty. Looks great within the red leaves of the tree.

(with my allergies, I don't go out of the way to smell, but I definitely enjoy them)
