Saturday Critters ~ 114 ~

I have a lot of frequent flyers in my backyard.
Each bird, has a different personality.
Many birds that visit are of the grab and go variety, many linger forever,
often sitting right in the feeder itself.

So if I want to capture an image of a particular bird, I know exactly how much time I have.
If I am sitting and have the wrong lens on the camera,
I wouldn't bother getting up for a Woodpecker or Cardinal .
But if a Bluejay, Chickadee or Sparrow comes,
I can run around the room, find the camera,
put the memory card in, change the lens and still get an awesome picture.
You getting my drift!!

I've been home a lot, hanging with the birds,
here are a few of my favorite images from the thousands I have taken.

Fantastic shots, Debbie! you should have these complied into a bird watchers book! I still love the male House Finch best just because he's colourful but your first couple of shots are amazing!
Enjoy your day!

All stunning captures Debbie, you sure know how to shoot them in wonderful ways. Your second photo is very remarkable too! Such expression in it.

These are so beautiful, they take my breath away! I see them flitting around, but I can really study their beauty through your images! My favorite is the first shot of the wren. Second, would be the tufted titmouse. I love their elegant look. Do you mind sharing what lens you use? Do you shoot using shutter speed setting and use a tripod? I've never been able to get good bird pictures. It would be fun to work on that.

These are gorgeous! All of them have great bokeh! The first female Downy photo is one of the best I've ever seen! Very nice, Debbie!

all of the images are taken handheld. i have a nikon that i use as a point and shoot....i don't know anything about shutter speed!!! the birds come in very close to the window, i use a 300mm zoom lens!! my pictures are not protected on-line if you would ever like to use one for wallpaper on your computer or really any other reason. i always hope other people can enjoy them!!!!!

Hello Debbie, your bird photos are gorgeous. I only have a mobile phone camera and I will never be able to get such beautiful close up photos. I can only admire your photos. Not able to pick a favourite, everyone of them is equally great!

Hello Debbie!:) The beauty of these images is beyond belief, I am in awe of them all. Your Nuthatch photos are much better than mine!!:) The White Breasted Nuthatch is a real beauty, and I have only just realized that I should have titled mine as a Eurasian Nuthatch. The first image of the female Downy Woodpecker is stunning,... perhaps my favourite, but it's really hard to choose.:)

Oh you are so lucky having so many different birds visit.
OK my faves are the Chickadees, I love their colouring and fat round bodies and pretty little faces!
We don't make have them in New Zealand.
You're certainly spoilt for choice Debbie and they're all gorgeous!

It is so nice that you put the names of the birds with the pictures, I love birds but have no clue what their names are except for more common ones. I think you do a wonderful job of capturing them and I like to see all kinds of birds but I will have to say the poses you captured in the woodpecker were very cool!!

I had to smile at your knowledge of whether or not to bother looking for the camera for a photo opportunity. I can certainly see why these are your favorites. Beautiful!

Great photos! It's sometimes hard to get a good vantage point, etc but your shots are wonderful!

Thank you, Debbie! They are gorgeous. My bird feeder is not close to the window, therefore when I want a picture I have to go outside. They hear and see me and fly away! I've tried sitting very still and waiting for them to come back, but they have more patience than I do!

We have quite a few sparrows but I haven't captured them like you have here in your fabulous pics.

All the best Jan

It's hard to pick a favorite, but I have to say the Yellow-rumped Warbler. They are feisty "big" for their small size! I enjoy seeing that little sun-dappled bird at "his" bowl of peanut butter, and watching him defend his territory.
