Sandy Hook...

The Final Chapter

M.A.S.T. Campus on the grounds of Fort Hancock

Mortar Battery

The oldest standing Lighthouse in America, built in 1764,
will celebrate its 250th Anniversary in June 2014.

 Lighthouse keepers home.

Home of the Lighthouse keeper from 1809 - 1938,
when the duties of the keeper where transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard

 The Sandy Hook Bay...

has beautiful nature paths, bike paths, walking trails and salt marshes,
along with more than 300 species of birds.

Sandy Hook is a summer destination.
Primarily because of it's location and spralling beaches.
I like it better in winter.
The winter landscapes, on the bay side, took my breath away.

Great photos, Debbie! You gave us a good sense of the place. I love the old red brick in the first two photos. And I would love to see the inside of that lighthouse keeper's house.

HI Bebbie Lovely to see the Lighthouse and previous home of the light keeper. This looks like a great place to go walking and it is great that there are 300 birds in the area.

you had me at Lighthouse. i have always loved them since a kid. i need to see this one in person. writing it down right now, on the list for sure. can't you imagine the weather the lighthouse has seen? good & bad weather. i love to think of life like a "lighthouse" if that old thing can make it through all the tough times. we can to. shine one. ok, no more sappy talk. get back to smiling now. ha. ha!! Sandy Hook does look good in winter but the birds in spring would be a draw for me.

What a beautiful place, Debbie, and I think I would like it better in winter too. Kind of like beaches...better when they're empty.

I really love lighthouses, and this one is a beauty!

Thanks, Debbie, for this trip down memory lane as natives of NJ we have visited Sandy Hook and always enjoy seeing it again. You are so right about off-season being the best time to visit.

How beautiful! Love the lighthouse. Happy birthday to it! I agree that a lot of the places that are so popular in summer have a great winter appeal. Not so many people.

I think I would like it better in winter too. I like the way those salt marshes photographed and I love the light house and the keepers house. I think that would be so much fun to live there.

Beautiful photos, Debbie! I love the ones of the bay and the path with the fence. And of course I love the lighthouse because I am a lover of lighthouses and have visited many over the years. None in your area though.

Debbie these are just wonderful photos. The first shot of the MAST Campus with the brick and bright green trim is really striking. I love Lighthouses and that one was very interesting. My favorite shot was the fence along the nature path.
