The "Sandy" Castle

Welcome to Point Pleasant Beach, home of "The Sandy Castle"

This sand castle is a dedication to the Jersey Shore,
to help raise awareness and collect donations

for those still recovering from Super Storm Sandy.

50 foot tall, built by Ed Jarrett and 100's of volunteer's,

each part of the castle tells a story.

This side of the castle is carved in Gothic-style,

This side pays tribute to the Barnegat Lighthouse.

The ships of the ocean.

Every day they change the date.
We visited on July 11, 2013.

We found a random heart, for Clytie and lots of love here.

As we left, it was suggested...
"Do Not Feed The Gator"

Sharing today with Clytie at Random Hearts
stop over and spread some love!!

These are so great. Love the shots! I don't really see this going down here on the beaches in Florida.

Ohmigosh, what an amazing structure! I do believe I could spend hours staring at it (most of that time with my mouth dropped open, like it is now!). Sand castles have always amazed me (temporary beauty, kind of like sidewalk chalk drawings) and this one is no exception. Of course I'm a little partial to the heart - thank you for sharing this castle!

P.S. If I were to feed any gator, it would be THIS one! Snicker.

Amazing! Great shots - I get a sense of how big it is and of the details. Was Barnegat light damaged/lost in the storms?? I have the sweetest memories from there as a child and some amazing photos my dad took when I was just a kid... Might go link up my invite over at random hearts...thought the heart on the invite wasn't particularly random!!

Loving your shots Debbie!

I often wonder if those affected by Sandy are much like those affected by Katrina. We should not forget them. xo

No feeding, so the alligator eats only sand.

What great pictures. I want to go see it for myself! I'm going to wait for the weather to cool off a bit first.

That is so cool. I love those giant kinds of sandcastles but that one is just special.

Wow! That's an awesome sand castle! Do they somehow preserve it so the winds or rain won't destroy it? Love your shots!

Fantastic captures of very special event- I love the different side-stories- my Thanks for sharing Debbie.

So much has been lost by so many.
The place of my birth will never be the same- but the clam-diggers will rebuild again as they have always done.

Nice pictures, it could be that we will also visit a sand sculpture festival in Belgium.

I haven't seen this in person yet, but it looks incredible! It reminds me of Sagrada Família in Barcelona.
