My Blue Jays

I had not seen my Blue Jays all summer...
I didn't really notice they were missing until they came back, a week or so ago,
I usually see them year round.

I have always loved my Blue Jays...
they are so beautiful, friendly, they pose for pictures and they alert other birds when a Hawk is present.
I have always felt they got a bad rap for being so loud...

but I have come to realize it is their "loud shrill" alerting other birds to lurking danger.

They have been so loud since they returned, I must have a hawk in the yard.

Their feather pattern is so pretty and they are such gorgeous shades of blue.
One of my bird books says they are common and noisy, that they hang out in urban gardens and parks,
and are frequent visitors to backyard feeders.
Blue Jays commonly eat nuts, fruit, seeds and insects.

These 2 pictures were taken back on March 6 2021 and they are my 2 favorites.
1st:  Young teens, waiting to be fed were quite upset with mom when she returned with no food.

2nd:  This bird played dead and was not dead...I guess it was too hot for him in March.
We called this bird "Drama Queen".

I use these 2 books for identifying birds and to learn about them.

The sunset Thursday was breathtaking...the entire sky was orange.

I have not had a fun week and did not get out much.
I need to change that.

I think Bluejays are beautiful but I've heard they're mean. We do have a small flock in a Grove of trees here-- they seem to stay pretty much to themselves but do strongly defend that area/territory . Haven't seen any fledglings and they are adorable!

Beautiful photos
Bluejays are a favorite bird. This year I’ve seen a few at the bird seed already. They usually don’t show up until it is colder. I think the drought has limited their natural food sources. There use to be one that would squawk when I was late putting out seed. They love walnut pieces.

Beautiful sunset. Here in the mountains, we also have gray jays that will land on your hand for feeding. That is the high light of hiking in the whites.
The blue jays are not nice to robins they will rob their nests.
