Located right in Austin, Texas
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center
is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of plants and flowers native to Texas.
The gardens are so pretty, primarily wildflowers in a very natural setting.
I was a little disappointed that the Bluebonnets were spent,
but there were plenty of other gorgeous flowers.
Water Lily
Mexican Hats
Coneflowers
This Wind-chime had the most beautiful sound...
Purple Coneflower
One plant isn't much to look at...
put a million of them together and it's a show!
Spread acres of them on the slope of a hill and it is spectacular, wouldn't you agree?
Purple Coneflowers
Cut Leaf Penstemon
Mexican Hats
Flowering Cactus

I am a great admirer of Lady Bird Johnson and all the work she did to enhance the natural beauty of Texas. I remember vividly driving along a highway somewhere near Austin many years ago and the medians were awash with colour. It made even driving quite pleasant!
yes david, that is correct! she was the founder and finical supporter of wildflower program along the highways in texas. the planting areas are gorgeous and one of the things that stands out in my memory about texas. i would have stopped for pictures had we rented a car, but we were always in an uber and i never asked anyone to stop (would that be proper??)!
we have them here in new jersey too, but to a much smaller degree. they are along the garden state parkway. i don't know who started it here but i read that her efforts inspired a lot of states to do it as well!!!
Hello, Debbie! What a lovely place to visit. Lady Bird Johnson was a great environmentalist. The wildflowers are gorgeous, lovely views of the flowers and gardens. Enjoy your day, wishing you a great weekend ahead.
Goodness gracious, surrounded by beauty weren't y'all. I love the photo's! I also love wildflowers and have tried to get them to grow here; obviously I'm doin' something wrong. :)
Enjoy!

What a spectacular place! Those wildflower meadows are wonderful!
That is a pretty place and I particularly love all the stonework, very nice! you got some great pictures of all the flowers. How long did it take to walk through?
What an amazing place to spend time with your camera! I lived in Texas for many years and benefited from all the wildflowers planted along the highways. I love the coneflowers!
I have never been to the garden but I surely would love to go. Such pretty scenery. Is it hot down there now? Hot as Virginia? I feel for you if it is. I love the picture of the single cone flower. All of them are pretty but I just am rather fond of that one.
I love all the colors and pretty flowers. Coneflowers are a fave of mine. Esp the really darker colored ones. Yikes with the rattlesnakes. I think I could do without knowing they were in the area where I was.
To see a hill covered in Purple Coneflowers would be a glorious sight. How green and lush everything looks, with wildflowers making a presence throughout. It sounds as if a day walking around the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center would be a day filled with happiness and smiles.

This looks like such a lovely place to visit. Your husband looked very happy to be there. You got some fantastic shots of the area and of course, I saved a few for future use. I do love your adventures and this is a great one.
Blessings and hugs!
Must be a pleasure to visit!...
Beautiful place! I don't think I've ever seen that many cone flowers in one area! Gorgeous!
Beautiful.
What a lovely place to visit.
So nice to see all of the colourful photographs … gorgeous.
All the best Jan
I love the whole concept. Beautiful photos Debbie 💜💐
Wow that looks like a very untouched area, Love the pillars with all the ivy so cool, hope you didn't counter any rattlesnakes that would be a little scary.
Wow! I would love to see a field of coneflowers!
