Feed The Jays...

A continuation from yesterday...
After Junior, aka Mr. Squirrel got done eating all the seed and peanuts,
that were intended for the birds...
he "rolled" off the deck, and layed on the lawn,
in a "food comma" of sorts.

Back out I went, cleaned up his mess
and put out some new seeds and peanuts for the birds.

It didn't take long for...

the Blue Jays to show up.

I think, he thinks, he won the food lottery!!

He wastes no time digging in...

or double dipping!

With a full belly, one in the chamber and one for later,

off he goes.

Only to return just a few minutes later
and round two begins!

Most of my followers are bird lovers...
are you one of them??
Do you consider yourself "hard core" or just a "casual feeder"??
I'm a hard core bird lover
and my love for them does not go unnoticed!

My grandmother is a hard core bird lover, so I grew up watching them all the time from her garden room. I can't believe we still don't have a feeder in our backyard, I definitely have to look into getting one!

So nice to see the Jays a virus that effected just the was in this area several years back and the population here dwindled quick and still hasn't come back. I rarely see them if ever now.
We are hard core bird feeders. Spring and Summer we are hard core hummingbird feeders once the Hummies go South in September out goes the mixed wild bird food again . I am watching a cardinal in the feeder as I type this :)

the blue jays around here are very loud & you know they have visited. i have plant hooks & they will land so heavily on them & i am always afraid they will go flying (the bird or the hooks) or break. it is wild to watch. ( :

They are such beautiful birds. My grandmother lived in Los Angeles and had bluejays that would fly in her kitchen door and get food off of her coffee table. We loved watching! Your photos are just so amazing, it is like being there! Thanks Debbie!

I love your photos today of the birds. I like birds but I wouldn't have even known they existed until my daughter began to want to know what that bird was. So I began to get bird books for her and as she learned I did too.
I like them and spend lots of times watching them, I just never think that much about them, you know kinda like air? That is why I like your blog, I learn so much.

I love watching birds and learning about the various species. At my mother's nursing home, there are millions (well, hundreds, maybe) of different birds.

Oh I love Jays! You know I am a hard core feeder! Had a bit of a tragedy this week, a hawk swooped over the yard and nabbed himself one of my beautiful Blue Jays. I was almost hysterical...not a thing I could about it :(

I was glad to see this lovely bird today. You catch such beautiful photos of them. I love to see how they eat. I bet word gets around the neighborhood that that Mrs. Debbie is a generous lady. :-)

Beautiful blue jay. They are a very smart and interesting bird. You must try shelled peanuts for them. You can buy a bag in your store of any grocery store. They are so funny how they shake them to see if one is realy in there.

Let me know if you will challenge that idea. You will get a kick out of it.

Has anyone else tried it?

Have a geat day!

We do.

I love watching the birds. Unfortunately I can't have a bird feeder because I live in an apartment now. I always had one at home and I miss not having one.

I'm a bird lover and am loving all the birds in your yard. The jays bring so much color, especially in the winter when everything is covered in snow.
Which reminds me I need to go fill the feeders.

I'm a "casual feeder" ...mostly inspired by your love for the little guys! It's like most anything though, the more you pay attention to it and begin to learn about it, the richer of a subject it becomes. The world is full of wonder!!

Super pictures. Sharp. I wonder how they eat these large pieces, swallow them in one go?

I just love birds and I don't get to see jays here in Montreal. I have seen a cardinal, though. Your photos are so beautiful!

I guess we're the casual feeder type. And its sad to say, but we ditch our feathered friends over the winter months when we become snow birds.

Debbie, I enjoy feeding the birds too and this summer there have been at least half a dozen blue jays. They are very greedy and did not share sunflower seeds very well, even scaring off other birds and fellow jays. Now the male cardinals are starting to show brighter reds and so are the male finches. If only those unwelcome grackles and starlings would stay away from the feeders . . . perhaps the jays will tend to them.

Just some very beautiful shots of the Blue jay. I think birds are smart. I don't know if I shared this story before. When we lived in Washington, I looked out on my back lawn and there was a squirrel with 4 quail surrounding him. It was a photo moment with no camera on hand.
Blessings!

Love to watch the birds. Hope they will return soon as they tend to stay in the woods in the summer. You took some fascinating photos of this one's eating habits.
