Ominous Skies...

This past Saturday, was a beautiful day.

But looking up, at times, the skies were ominous, even threatening.

 No one was discouraged by these moody skies...

 

 we weren't...

and neither were these wind surfers at Sandy Hook.

 

The clouds and sunbeams were breathtaking

and those dark, puffy clouds never produced one drop of rain.

 

ps...note to self, wind surfing looks hard,

and exhausting, I don't think you would like it!!

 

The Lighthouses of New Jersey

Lighthouses are many things to many people.

To me, they are a guiding light to the tired mariner,

bringing him home from an often treacherous journey at sea.

It is a light of comfort, the light that guides him home. 

 

We have 18 fascinating Lighthouses here in New Jersey.

Each with it's own story, each surviving

the awe-inspiring force of the sea. 

 

We visited 2 on Saturday...

 

 This one in Sandy Hook...

 completed in 1764,

it is the oldest operating lighthouse in the 
United States.

 

Not far from Sandy Hook are the...

 Twin Lights of Navesink

 This gorgeous brownstone double lighthouse,

 was built in 1883,

 and is located 250 feet above Sandy Hook Bay.

 

The grounds of this lighthouse,

offer a picturesque view of the New York City skyline.
