Saturday Critters #466

While outside the house for business or pleasure, I always try to spin past
Lake of the Lilies
and check on the wild life there.
It's the time of the year when the waterfowl switch over...
many are leaving for parts south and the birds and ducks that spend the winter with us are just arriving.

I am sad to report that 30 swans, geese and one duck have died at the lake due to
Bird Flu
All of these pictures were taken from the car as signs are posted urging people to stay away from the lake.
The wood duck has been here since October and I did not see him today.
I hope he was not the one duck that died.

The population was heavy in the lake, there were a lot of swans but I did not focus on them.

There had to be at least 50 Coots, they spend the winter here.

There were quite a few American Wigeons...

they also spend winters here.

There were so many Ruddy Ducks, too many to count.

The Swans usually leave for winter...I hope they go, stay healthy and avoid this bird flu.

The birds flu was here this summer so I imagine it went south with them. We still see dead gannets along the beaches. Such a tragedy. I hope the birds there stay healthy, Debbie! Great shots as always!

Great pictures Debbie!!-- with the water rippling just perfectly!! And such a gorgeous blue I wasn't sure I'd like the Crown either but once I started watching I do. I enjoyed all the history alot. How's your arm doing?

Had heard about the bird flu, but since we aren't around any water, haven't seen any evidence of it. Hope the swans stay healthy! Always enjoy your pics!

That's so sad about the bird flu killing so many! You took some beautiful photos and I hope the lake and all the birds stay healthy. Why is there so much to worry about...all at the same time! Hugs!

There really hasn't been too much press about the bird flu here in the Midwest but we did see and hear about it while we were on Prince Edward Island this past summer.

Hello Debbie :=)

Such bad news about the bird flu. it's tragic that so many birds have died. I hope the ones on Lake of the Lilies survive. Lovely captures of all the birds.

Are you having physio for your wrist, I hope you regain the strength in it soon.
All the best.

I sure enjoyed all your photos at the lake. Also happy to see your new car in previous post. That episode sure turned out well. I was a little bit curious about the lake. I looked around and see that you are in New Jersey. I wonder … does the lake freeze over and, if so, how does that affect the ducks? No worries about answering … maybe you will tell us in a future post. You have a nice blog here, which I found, thanks to your kind comment on mine.

That's so sad about the swans and the duck. Beautiful photos though! We were at a lake the other day and usually there would be signs out if there was a problem here. I hope it goes away soon for everyone's sake.
