Saturday Critters ~ 235 ~

I sometimes wonder...or try to remember why I set up my first bird feeder.
I think it was just to attract birds to my yard,
feeding them was secondary.
Now feeding them is so important...I want to nourish their little bodies and
I want them to know they can count on me to keep the feeders full.
I provide water as well,
I have learned over the years that water is just as important as food!
My Aunt Dot first taught me the art of birdwatching.
From her dining room window we kept track of all our visitors in a book,
Pop kept the feeders full and
filled the suet feeders with homemade suet.

My trees are always filled with house finches and I seem to always see them in couples.

She, not as pretty as he, but that is almost always the case with birds.
Some of my males have a lot more red than others.
They are friendly birds that allow me to get pretty close for pictures.
They eat sunflower seeds and thistle.
Now that the hubs has trimmed things up, they have two great landing spots,
where they are perfectly visible for taking pictures!

Wow, you are up EARLY! HA HA LOL. Love these pictures, so beautiful. This is my first year feeding the birds. I have learned alot from you. We put out suet, several kinds of seeds for different birds, and two big water dishes (shallow) which we empty and fill daily or so to keep them clean. I am enjoying the birds so much! No luck on hummingbirds yet......

Great job, Debbie. Not only are they very handsome little birds they also have a wonderful, cheery song. At this time of the year there should be lots of babies around.

It is rewarding to feed little birds...to watch them and to hear them sing is so pleasant.

I love these guys. I had never seen one f-to-f until I went back home (El Paso) and was shocked to see them all over the place. I lived there 29 years and never saw one. So where did they come from? Strange. Migrated north from Mexico? Or south from the Rockies? Hmmm

Hello, Debbie! Your House finch photos are so pretty. They are fun to watch. I am glad your hubby trimmed the bushes just for your great captures and photos. Thank you so much for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your day and weekend. You are lucky to have the winter Oriole visit. PS, thank you for visit and commenting on my post.

Debbie, those are the most amazing pictures. You ought to do a book of birds. I swear it would sell big time. A coffee table book. I'd buy one.

I can tell that you do truly care about taking care of your birds. I first set up feeders after waking one morning listening to the birds outside my window and wanting to see what kind of birds we had in our forest. The forest is so thick around our house, that they hide well. I enjoy seeing the variety of birds in my neighborhood and enjoy taking care of them. Sadly - we have to take our feeders down from April - November to avoid attracting bears to our deck. We made that mistake once and won't do it again.
Your tree does make for the perfect perch - and beautiful photos!

I am as grateful to you as the birds are for that first feeder you put out. You delight them with food and us with their beauty. In her own way, the female is really quite beautiful too.

Isn't it funny how things can creep up on us and we have to really think how it all came about. I love animals of all kinds, I think that is what brought me to want bird feeders. That is a neat idea to document which ones have come to your feeders. You have great documentation now through your beautiful pictures.

As always some fantastic bird shots. I love these ones. I do find it fascinating that the male is a bit more colorful from the female. I especially enjoyed reading about how you got started in watching birds, and then feeding them. You had a great Aunt Dot and Pop!
Thanks for sharing! Sending love and hugs
