Philadelphia Chinese Lantern Festival

This festival was held at Franklin Square in Philadelphia Pennsylvania
28 culturally inspired lantern sculptures...
every one of these more incredible than the next!

We arrived at 6 p.m., to see the colorful sculptures before they were lit.
It was fun to view them that way, to see and appreciate all of the colorful, amazing details.
Today I am going to share how they looked when it got dark,
and how beautiful they were, all lit up.

You enter the event through The Koi Fish Gate...

and proceed down the Golden Fish Gallery

The Peacock

The next 4 sculptures are Chinese Mythological Animals

African Daises

The next three pictures are of the Chinese Dragon

Lion Palace Lantern

Rhino Beetle

Grasshopper

Panda Paradise

Year of the Dog

Time Tunnel

Squirrel Family

Great White Shark

Forest Concert

Colorful Worm

Polychrome Elephants

Flower

Hector's Dolphin

Fairy Tree

Crystal Swan

Olive Ridley Turtle

The sculptures are constructed from the same material as a typical Chinese lantern.
A few, like this turtle, had moving parts.
Each exhibit, not too far from the next, making it easy to see everything.
It was not over crowded, there were plenty of food vendors, adult beverages, a beer garden
and some interesting Chinese Art.

Well run, lots of security, this festival was a real winner.
Running through June 30th, if you get the chance, and are not too far away, go see it...
you will not be disappointed!

FANTASTIC!

I love that in amongst the great dragons and elephant there is...a humble grasshopper. :) Oh, and the bug band.

Thank you for taking us on this trip with you. My eyes are so wide they are bigger than my head!

The colors are so bright that I think my favorites were the blue tones like the crystal swan. Loved the tunnels too.

Hey Debbie - thanks for the nice comments on my yard. It has taken me 26 yrs to get it this way. First it was bare, no shed, no trees except on the creek, deck was open and you would burn up out there in the summer, then while working and raising brats...I mean kids I just did not have the time to get it where I wanted it. Now being retired allows me time to Now if plants would start blooming more! I think you would enjoy sitting on the deck looking out in the yard with a cup of coffee...course I would love to be out in your back enjoying the pool! Have a great week.

Wow!! the colors and light in the night - so vivid! You got some fantastic shots. For some reason, Hector's dolphin had me scrolling back and forth - trying to figure out why it caught my eye even more than the others. I still don't know why... what a fun display!

Wow, Debbie, I have never seen anything like this!! So glad you posted it because it's a sight I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise---blogging is so fun and we learn so much! Your pictures are so pretty and make me feel like I am there walking through with y'all. I loved how you did the daytime scenes and then the night ones. So pretty and so bright and colorful, looks like a really fun event! Is it every year?
