Deep Cut Gardens

New to me, Deep Cut Gardens proved to be a real hidden treasure.
I have lived in this area my entire life, I have never heard of nor visited this 54 acre garden.
It was beautiful, colorful, bee's and butterflies filled the air.

This part of the garden/park was home to beautiful flowers,
vegetable plants, gnomes and fairies.

We missed the rose garden, pergola, koi pond, greenhouse and horticultural center.
Mostly, because I did not realize how big the garden was,
and primarily because we were so hot,
I suspect we both hoped this was all there was to see.
- sad, but true -
We plan to go back in the fall, to see everything...
and really explore this hidden gem in cooler temperatures.

The Cosmos Are Blooming...

Cosmos are showy annuals, with bowl shaped flowers and long stems.
They are great cut flowers and they will attract birds and butterflies to your garden.

Alstede Farms, Chester, NJ...

The path to finding the perfect sunflower field was not an easy one.
It didn't just happen.
Timing was everything and our timing was off, ever so slightly.
I kept reading about them on the internet,
one was too far, one was already spent...
people were sharing pictures but they had been taken a week earlier...
grrrr, I wanted to see one, not too far, and one that was blooming at that moment.

- you could say I was obsessed -

Our search started in Chester, NJ,
that was a bit of a dud, but we took pictures anyway...no surprise there.

You can see it was a large field, plenty of sunflowers, but most of them had faded.
On it's day, I'll bet it was beautiful!

The sunflowers were huge, most were bending forward.

- the hubs -

- me of course -

I did find one or two that had yet to open...

and just a few that were pretty as could be!

There was an outdoors farmers market...with beautiful produce,

and an indoor farm store with produce and bakery items.

ps...I forgot to say that this is a beautiful farm and we had a marvelous day.
Missing the sunflowers was our fault.
We have been here before and we have always had a wonderful time!!

The perfect sunflower field was here, in Chester County, Pa., just in case you missed that post.

Saturday Critters ~ 192 ~

awwwww, The Hummingbirds.
They are killing my concentration this summer.
To say that I am distracted by them would be a huge understatement.

A few fun facts...
Hummingbirds can fly forward, backward and stop mid-air.
An Average hummingbird consumes at least half it's weight in nectar each day.
The hummingbird is the world's smallest bird.
Hummingbirds can reach speeds up to 60 miles an hour.
A hummingbird's wings beat 78 times per second during regular flight.
They eat about every 10 minutes!

Summer Suppers...

Do you eat "different" during the summer??
We do...
We eat lighter and brighter, lot's of salads and vegetables from the garden.
We eat hot dogs and BLT's, pasta salad, potato salad and deviled eggs.

I have not made potato salad in some time and for the first time ever, I used a recipe.
- weird right -
I use to throw the same ole' stuff in a bowl,
I never measured anything...and it always came out great.
But because I have not made it in some time, and I wanted it to come out really good,
because the hubs has been asking for it, I used a recipe.

Here's the recipe I used...
The only change I made was to omit the relish.

- Ingredients -

- I used 5 Red Skin Potatoes, Peeled -

- I always dice the potatoes first, place in to cold, salted, water, bring the water to a boil,
and cook for exactly 7 minutes after it comes to a boil.
I cooked a few extra eggs to make deviled eggs -

- Don't the ingredients look pretty this way -

- Mix it up -

- Potatoes on top -

- One last toss and yer done -

I make my deviled eggs with mayonnaise, a small dash of mustard, and bacon.

We picked the first cucumber from the garden,

mixed with tomato and poppy seed dressing, it was delish!

and by the way, could that bowl be any cuter?
