The Winter Bucket List

Things are going very well with the

Winter Bucket List

I have surprised myself with all those red "x's" on the list...
In the upper right corner of the page I wrote a note to us "Have Fun", we sure have.
But we need some snow to finish things up...and it just may be coming this weekend, fingers crossed.
We got a small dusting the other day, not even enough for pictures.

The hubs went in to Home DePot for some work supplies,
and saw these Paperwhites were on sale, half price.
There were only 3 in the box, I planted them on Thursday January 10th.

A few days later, when we were food shopping at Stop & Shop,

I saw these Amaryllis on clearance for a dollar.
Would you believe that, one dollar, one hopped straight in to my shopping cart.
But why only one??
For a buck-a-roo, I could have been a real sport and picked up a few.

I spread the paperwhites out wider and on Saturday,
I put the Amaryllis in the same dish, in the center. I think everyone is happy...
here's hoping we have some pretty blooms in the house soon!

Yarn Along

I finished the Donnie's Hat I have been working on,
AND I found someone to gift it to.
If you don't know the "hat story", this will mean nothing to you.
If you know the hat story, you get it,
you know that every single person I know or am related to, has a hat, made by "moi".
one of my favorite nieces is engaged to a handsome police officer,
he came along after the hat surge,
and can you believe it, he doesn't have a this one is for you Gabe.

I adore these tags that the farm includes with their yarn,
this yarn was made from fiber from Spacie, Swag and Vaunesse.

Soft, warm and so cuddly, I'm sure he will love it!

I signed up for a class at the Coop, this coming Friday, to learn how to crochet.
In my younger life,
I crocheted a lot, I even made blankets, so I am hoping I will pick it up quickly.

This I did, because as you know, I need another hobby!

When we were out on Friday,
we decided to have lunch at a cute little restaurant we had read about on the internet.
in Spring Lake Heights, new to us, they have been open about 2 years.

Family owned and operated...

the decor was bright and beautiful, well thought out and well coordinated.
The open floor plan gave the cafe' a friendly atmosphere.

The art - all marigolds...

these cute orange decorative shades allow all the beautiful sunlight in,

and these adorable lights, all add charm to this lovely space.

We sat at that little table on the right,
next to the window.
We had lunch and the sandwiches were fresh and flavorful.
They came with french fries, that were hot, crisp and freshly made.

The staff was very attentive and welcoming.

They are open for breakfast and lunch,
lunch was so good we are going back to try out their incredible breakfast menu.

We brought home a cupcake and a brownie, yum - yum!

Lake Of The Lilies

On Friday, we went for a ride in the car...
I choose where we were going,
Lake of the Lilies and my favorite yarn shop, Frame and Fiber.
Last time we visited the lake, I saw a Female Wood Duck,
I was sure there must be a male hanging around also, but I never saw one.

Friday, we made one lap around the lake and did not see any special ducks,
and we certainly did not see any Wood Ducks.
Second lap around and we were almost finished when I saw him...
it was a "wet your pants" moment.
I don't usually see Wood Ducks here in New Jersey,
although according to my "newer bird book", they are here year round.
I don't see them in any of my hot spots.

This was only the second time I have ever seen a male.

I love this look - when he stretches his neck up.

Photographing in to the sun, conditions were not optimal...
but it didn't matter, it was such a thrill to see him!

2018 In Review...The Birds

I picked one favorite bird picture from each month in 2018...
it wasn't easy - I have a lot of favorites!

I may have to do this again, there were so many favorites that did not make the cut!

Snowman Punch Needle

Who remembers the super fun
 Punch Needle Class
I took, way back when, before Christmas?

I took the class on November 18th, finished the needle punching work before Christmas
but never mounted the finished product on to the wood ornament.

This is what we are making...
This is the teachers work, our encouragement.

I enjoyed the class, 7 of us, I did not know anyone and met some very nice ladies.

After the 2 hour class, and after doing a little more work on it at home that night,
mine looked like this and I was pretty happy.

With punch needling, the design is on the back, and you work from the back.
So this is what you are looking at while you work.

All finished, but still in the hoop, it looked like this.

All finished, and the back looked like this.

Mounted on the wood ornament, it looks like this.
I think it came out nicely for my first go at it.

I also made a few cute things for the little ones in my life...

These S'mores Kits

One hershey bar, 2 graham crackers and an oversized peeps!
These are fun,
my niece has a fire pit and the kids love them.

I also made these cute holders for a sleeve of popcorn .
This is the front...

this is the back...

the popcorn nestles nicely inside.
If you are interested, you can print these popcorn wrap arounds here for free,
and the S'mores tags can be found here, they are also free.
