Home Chef vs Creamy Tuscan Chicken

This week, since I am a little bored
 - I'm not really bored -
- I am never really without some way to amuse myself -
I decided to prepare a pretty pasta dish I have been wanting to try.
I thought it would be a fun way to put my Home Chef meals to the test,
and see how they measure up cost wise.
I think this meal is comparable to a meal from Home Chef...

Click on the link above for the directions to make this delicious meal.

Ingredients:

1 - 2 tablespoons of EVOO
1/4 Cup of All purpose Flour
4 Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
2 - 3 Teaspoons of Kosher Salt
A Few Turns of Black Pepper
4 Cloves of Garlic, Minced
1/2 Cup of Chicken Broth
3/4 Cup of Heavy Cream
1 Teaspoon of Italian Seasonings
1/2 Cup of Parmesan Cheese, Grated
1 - 2 Cups of Fresh Spinach, Roughly Chopped
1/2 Cup of Roughly Chopped Sun Dried Tomatoes
Pasta for Serving

The cost was as follows:

Chicken - $ 5.76
Garlic - $ .99
Heavy Cream - $ .99
Parmesan Cheese - $ 3.99
Spinach - $ 2.50
Sun Dried Tomatoes - $ 5.99
Pasta - $ .69

Total Cost - $ 20.51

I did not include the cost for pantry items I already had,
the chicken was on sale,
and even I was a little surprised with the results.
My Home Chef meals are $ 20.00, and that feeds 2 people, this did also.
This meal is like any I would prepare instead of a Home Chef meal,
but with Home Chef there is no planning, no shopping, and no waste.
In making the Tuscan Chicken,
I realized what a grand convenience it is to have all of the ingredients pre-measured
and all together in one bag when you begin cooking.

It was a fun and interesting comparison...
some will say I should have done a comparison with an actual Home Chef meal,
but I can assure you, this was something very similar to a meal I would receive with my plan.
Their chicken is better than any chicken I can buy at the food store,
I find all of their meats to be delicious.

We have been receiving the meals for a year now and the hubs and I love it!
And the Creamy Tuscan Chicken was awesome, if you want to try it.

Wow, you pay a whole lot more for your parmesan cheese and sun dried tomatoes than where I live!

I should do that with the meals I make and try to figure out how much I spend, it would be interesting with the potatoes cause I buy them by the 5 pound bag and not sure how many meals are in one bag, same with our veggies I buy enough for 2-3 meals of each veggie, some of the meats I have enough leftovers for Greg to take for work, so it may be a bit interesting for me to figure out.
