Saturday Critters #527

We finally got a decent amount of snow that came during the day so we were able to enjoy it.

It is so pretty as it falls softly to the earth,
covering the needles on the evergreens and every branch on every tree.
And the best part of snow, the birds, they surround the feeders and empty them several times a day.

This Male Cardinal landed right in front of my lens.
I had the camera up in an attempt to photograph a Titmouse and this guy chased it
and landed right in the same spot.

Female House Finch puffed up, trying to stay warm.

Early morning there had to be at least 50
Robin Red Breasts
in the backyard evergreens and wandering around the yard.

I have never seen anything like it.

I saw a huge variety of birds BUT between their activity, the wind, the falling snow...
I think primarily the wind, it was almost impossible to get good pictures.
I took way more than 100 and these are the best.
I saw so many other species of birds that I was just not able to get clear pictures of.
And I might mention that I froze my butt off to get these.

Your photographs are gorgeous! The juniper berries make a fantastics background.
I read robins do gather in flocks sometimes. I think to figure out where is what or who is who. I've only seen them do that in the spring.

Great pictures, Debbie! That one of the Cardinal looks like he's looking right at you - possibly saying "WHAT??"

We aren’t seeing many birds with the wind so high. I don’t know how they manage! Great shots!

Loving the bird shots. Beautiful. In reply to your comment. Yes, I moved AGAIN. HAHA...I stayed in my townhouse for 28 yrs and bought my childhood home after the passing of my mom. 3.5 years into living there I realized that it was too much for me. I had to stop cutting the yard when the mower threw me, there were stairs all over. To get in the house I had to climb stairs. To the front porch there were about seven, the basement into the house was 15 or to come in from the deck, about 7 or 8 steep ones. The laundry was in the basement, down the stairs, out into the garage, around the stairs and to the back of the basement. It was just too much for me. Then I got sick in Jan of 2023, pain, I thought was my colon acting up. It kept on and on but until the pain got really bad and it was messing with my daily BR habits, I knew I had to go to the doc. Made appt with my gastro doc. It was not my colon, it was a 1 inch stone in my 4 inch kidney, left side, and it was pressing on my colon causing the BR issues. Anyway, by the time I had surgery it was August. Then I ended up having three surgeries in 10 days with COVID two weeks before the first surgery. I came out of the hospital with COVID, really low iron and a bad strain of UTI. With all that I got to thinking that I just needed to be closer to my daughter and grands. During my recovery, just looking to see what was in this area, I found a house I loved. Brand new and adorable. Only steps are five going up the deck, not steep. One level home that would make my life easier so I started the process of staging my house, and getting it sold. I am where I am and I am not doing that moving CRAP again! I am 8 mins from my daughter and grandsons, and 30 from greats. Other than being snowed in, I am happy.

I'm always so impressed by your shots.
I have seen groups of robins in the fall and spring but never that large.

Your bird photos are splendid. I love the way you framed each bird with some foliage or berries, and the way you captured the colors.

You really do take the MOST incredible close up shots, Debbie. The detail you captured on the birds are totally amazing!

Is there anything prettier than a male cardinal in the snow? Although the finch and the robin are pretty, there is something about the cardinals that is just special.

Oh wow, your pictures are incredible Debbie, so sharp and clear and the lighting is perfect. A great snow photo to start off with. I am happy you got your snow as I know you were looking forward to it.

Those are beautiful shots! I thought the bird feeder was just outside your window and you could photograph them from inside your house. If you froze your butt off, we thank you, and hope you're able to put your butt back on.
Those are nice birdies while we are -10 with -25 wind chill in Kansas City. I wondered where all the birdies went to, but I thought they went south, not to NJ! Your cardinal seems to have an orange tinge to his feathers, and I've not seen robins with white edges on the tips of their feathers. Lovely feathered friends! Linda in Kansas

Other than saying "HELLOOO" right at you, is that cardinal missing the tip of the top part of his beck? I'll bet he loves your feeder! Linda in Kansas

Love all your birds!!! Sherry and I saw several flocks of cardinals as we drove the country roads this afternoon. They would be on the road and then fly up and off as we got near them!

Terrific pics, thank goodness for digital cameras now, I remember back in the day when we prayed that picture would turn out after we sent it in to get developed. I love that the cardinal wanted his picture taken so bad he drove off the other bird.
We have freezing rain today, they have us all staying home and off the roads.
