Saturday Critters ~ 249 ~

I have seen more butterflies this year than ever before...
and the Monarchs are still hanging around.

These are 4th generation Monarchs, born in August or September.

Monarch Butterflies go through four stages during one life cycle,
and through four generations in one year.
The first, second and third generations live only 2 - 6 weeks...
while the 4th generation of Monarchs - born in September and October
migrate to warmer climates in winter and live approximately 6 - 8 months.

It is amazing how the four generations of Monarch butterflies works out
so that the Monarch population can continue to live on throughout the years.

Soon they will be off to Mexico and California where they will enjoy their winter.
I wish them a safe journey!

Based in my own observations Monarchs appear to have had a very good year.

You taught me some things about Monarchs, Debbie, that I did not know. Those are outstanding photos. You have to have one heck of a camera. I can't get close enough to get good pictures.

Isn't it amazing the ground they cover, you do such a beautiful job capturing them on all different angles. I love the one where you can see the sun shining through, wonderful!

I know me too, but then the big rains came in, for an entire week. They're not around so much anymore.
