Lucy The Elephant

The number one entry on my Summer Bucket List was to visit

Lucy The Elephant is a six story,
elephant shaped example of novelty architecture,
constructed of wood and tin sheeting in 1881.
She is located in Margate, New Jersey, 2 miles south of Atlantic City.

Lucy stands 65 feet tall, 60 feet in length and is 18 feet wide.

Today,
Lucy is recognized as the oldest roadside attraction in the United States,
and has been declared a National Historic Landmark.

Tours are available inside the elephant,
but the hubs and I did not feel like we needed to admire the view from Lucy's rump.

She is located on a beautiful beach in Margate,
I will show you some pictures of the beach itself on Thursday!

Wow....amazing ! Looks like a nice house to live in...but what would the neighbors say 😁

Awesome!
Also, I really like how the Carpenters took steps to restore Lucy. So much local heritage, not matter what shape or form, can disappear too quickly.
Great shots Debbie :D) xx

Oh how cool is that, it looks like they take great care of that, sometimes the roadside attractions are a little worn down. I love how you didn't feel you needed to look out his rear.

I've never even heard of Lucy before but now I can't believe we missed her when we traveled through NJ. Wish we could go back. Fab pictures.

Lol - I wonder what the view from her rump is like (?). I can honestly say I've never seen a six story elephant - I'm so glad she has been saved!
