Most of our winter friends have settled in at
Lake of the Lilies
is a dumpy waterbird with long, lobed toes.
In my bird book it says they are only here during the winter.
I see them year round, with many more appearing during the winter.
A familiar and rather understated duck.
This duck is only here during the winter and I have never seen them any other time of year.
Ruddy Duck
A very small diving duck, seen here only during the winter.
Mallard Ducks
are here year round and definitely don't get the credit they deserve.
They are beautiful ducks but because the are so common they are not often photographed,
even by myself.
These are both males.
The Great Blue Heron
A huge heron with long legs, neck and a daggerlike bill.
Easy to spot and seen here year round...at least one lives at the lake.
My book says they are here year round but I have never seen them before.

Hello, Debbie
Wonderful captures of all the ducks, you have a nice variety and beautiful photos. The Ruddy Duck is one of my favorites along with the cute Grebes. The Grebes dive so often and then pop up in a totally different part of the water.
You have to really be watching for them. Great photos! Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Take care, have a great weekend. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
The ducks are so beautiful and you are lucky to see so many at different times of the year. Enjoy your weekend!
As you can imagine the only ducks we see in winter are the Mallards which I still enjoy even though they are so common.
Wonderful shots as usual.
Love all your waterfowl pictures this week!
Beautiful photos!
My favorite? The Gadwall

Lovely to see these Debbie :)
Enjoy your weekend.
All the best Jan

How lovely to have this many winter friends on your lake. Love your photos!
it is neat how you can see different ones different times of the year, makes it more exciting to go see what may be around and what has left.
