Saturday Critters ~ 215 ~

While out for a drive, I stumbled upon this tiny, little park...

Gull Island County Park

Close to home, in Point Pleasant, NJ,
I have written about our adventures in the town of Point Pleasant in past entries.

I was shocked to find this beautiful Blue Heron at this time of year.
I don't usually see them during the winter.

I was also excited to see these Male Red Breasted Merganser,

they must be staying here for winter.

Looks like he caught supper.

What a surprise and what a beauty!

I took a lot more pictures that I will share tomorrow!

All of the snow from that big storm is gone.

Ohhhh, snap! My favorite! Beautiful heron! They stay here year round, but it's funny how they leave other places in the winter even though the climate is similar. I love the Mergansers, too!

Oh it is amazing that you are able to catch such great shots of these birds. I really liked the Heron and the mergansers. I am curious as to why you are seeing them in winter. This year I have seen more birds that I would have thought would be gone for winter. It has been dry here but it is still strange. I'll look forward to more of these.
Blessings and hugs!

Thats a nice litle park, don't you just love it when you happen upon neat spots like this?--we sure do! Fun to watch those birds as they go about their life. Have your birds started returning home yet?

Hello Debbie!:) What a nice discovery,...I love it when this happens too. Yes, it looks like the birds are overwintering in the park. The Heron is a very fine looking fellow, and seems well fed. The Red Breasted Mergansers are a pretty duck, that I would love to encounter on our adventures. Looking forward to seeing more pictures.:)

Fabulous pictures of the mergansers -- I've only seen those guys a couple of times -- they are such great photo subjects (worthy of your talents!) As is the poor GBH, which apparently forgot to fly down to Florida this year!
