The Cherry Blossom Festival

We are off to Washington, D.C. for the blooming of the Cherry Blossoms.
Nothing signifies the arrival of Spring quite like the
Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.
The Cherry Blossom trees signify the friendship between the US and Japan,
who gifted many of the trees to the United States.
Rumor has it that only about half will bloom, the weather has not been kind to them,
but we enjoy the trip each year and have decided to go anyway.

Prime viewing is suppose to be Saturday, it will be 75 degrees in Washington on Saturday,
and that sounds just perfect to me!!

oooooh, you are enjoying captures from last year!

Beauty And The Beast

I am not a huge Disney fanatic but I really wanted to see

This theater is brand new, close to home,

has stadium seating and awesome cup holders.

We went to the 3:30 show,
prime time sleeping time, I told the hubs he could take a nap and he did.

I on the other hand, did not.
The movie was amazing - the traditional Beauty and the Beast Disney Story.
Belle was amazing, everything about the movie was so authentic.
"Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle.
Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff
and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize
the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside".

The movie was outstanding - the set's, the costumes and make-up - everything about it.
But, it is not a cartoon and not for the little ones,
it did have some scary scenes.

Yarn Along

The wash cloths are still rolling off of the knitting needles.
They were/are suppose to be Christmas gifts,
but I have enjoyed gifting a few of them already.

I gave two to my niece Emily to take with her to New Zealand.
I wanted her to have something special and handmade from me to take with her.
These were the perfect gift since they are small and compact...
they both took their hand knitted hats with them as well.

This washcloth is currently on my needles...

and these are going to another special niece who is celebrating a birthday.

This is the rest of the package, boxed up and ready to travel to her home in South Carolina.
I love these girls!

Yarn Along is over - I didn't know - this will be the last scheduled one.
I will just post my knitting whenever my little heart desires!!

There's A New Nikon In The House

We are still getting to know each other...
I am still reading the manual...
but this baby does a lot and I am excited to get to know her better.

This camera has awesome zoom capability and amazing scene settings.
She will also be much easier for me to handle!

Saturday Critters ~ 170 ~

I have been home a bit the last few weeks because of the weather and the temperatures.
I never mind, I only have about a zillion things to keep me busy.
The yard birds also entertain me when I don't get out.
Here are a few of my favorites from this week.

Male House Finch

Female Cardinal

Yellow-Rumped Warbler

And this, my Flicker, who is the most difficult to photograph.

And although it feels like Winter outdoors, it sounds like Spring.

This Is Not For The Boys...

This post is not for the boys who follow my blog.
Exit now, you won't get it and you will just think it is silly.
I am a proclaimed organizer, an organizing junkie, not a cleaning junkie,
there is a big difference.

After a, not really so long winter,
I am still looking for spots in the house that could use a little makeover
or attention.
I have cleaned all the closets, those were cleaning projects as I keep them neat and organized,
before and after pictures would look just about the same.
One area in the house that needed attention, were the shelves in my office.

I wanted them to be "pretty" but functional...
I use everything on them, so they couldn't just be pretty.

The top shelf had stuff on it, the hubs took that stuff off before he left to run errands,
and before I took this picture.

Everything came off, that's the way to do it!
After cleaning everything and moving everything around...

after, it looked like this.
Prettier, less cluttered, more organized and more functional.
My desk faces these shelves and this is much nicer to look at.
This project, did of course spill over to a few other areas...

The top of this piece got switched up some...

this shelf did as well with my scrapbooks and my blog books.
I had all 20 blog books on this shelf but that just looked awkward.
I moved 8 of them onto the office shelves and then moved them around here,
they look much better separated.
The blog books are the ones with the gray spines, all the other books are scrapbooks.
A few of my memory jars are center back.
This has become my "memory" shelf.

This cabinet was custom made for this space more than 30 years ago.
I would certainly design it differently if I were going to have it built today.
I have thought about painting it,
covering the mirrors in the back, but so far,
those have only been thoughts.

My Winter projects are done and I am ready to hit my outdoor gardens.
Who else is done with all their Winter projects?

My Boys...

- hehehe...I think we can all relate -
You may read this and think that this requires 4 children - I only have 2...both boys.
But I know that each kid will take on 2 of these roles and I know exactly what they will be.

Let's just say that Mike would never sneak in tequila or twinkies...
you can figure out the rest on your own.

Yarn Along

Since finishing my "this is taking forever" Outlander Cowl
I decided to take on a simple project for a little while -
and when I say simple, I mean simple.
So far it's been fun, light and breezy and my brain is really enjoying it!

I'm knitting wash cloths for Christmas gift giving.

One tan, one blue - joined with a bar of felted soap -
I think that will make a wonderful gift for those I need this size gift for.
I am working with 100% organic cotton yarn, Seedling, and I am in love with the colors.

I am joining Ginny at Small Things for Yarn Along

ps... we didn't get any snow at the Jersey Shore.

My Daffodils...

I don't usually cut many of my daffodils and bring them inside.
I like leaving them out in the gardens for everyone in the neighborhood to enjoy.
I do bring a few indoors, but once they are cut and put into a vase,
they don't seem to last as long.

Last Thursday, before the first snow, I brought in two perfect daffodils,
so I could enjoy them at my desk.
I'm not sure what I was thinking, I should have cut all of them,
as they really suffered during Friday's snow.

Sunday, the hubs went out and cut the rest for me...
so many were injured and would not survive.

But I got one big vase full that were strong enough to survive the storm.
Here's hoping my tulips will be o.k.

Snow In March...

We didn't get a lot of snow this past Winter,
and we have had some really warm temperatures here at the
Jersey Shore.
I believe some weather people are saying it has been one of the warmest Winters on record,
I don't know when they starting keeping records.

This past Thursday, it was 65 degrees - bike riding weather,
on Friday - we got snow - go figure!

The snow was pretty, we didn't get much and the flakes were big and fluffy.

When I woke up and looked out the sliding glass door, this is what I saw.
I yelled to the hubs to get the camera.
The next seven pictures were taken from the upstairs bedroom.

Where's my river?!

And my poor Daffodils...

These two are of the backyard as seen from downstairs.
It was beautiful and refreshing.
Those weather peeps are talking about more snow on Tuesday...
and they are using the word Nor'easter...
and they named the storm Stella...
this sounds serious.
I "may" have to go to the food store.
