Postcards...

You may have read this story before...
When the hubs and I go away, we each purchase a postcard...
he sends his to me, I send mine to him.
We write notes about our favorite part of the trip,
and we mail them to each other, before we head home.

Yesterday our postcards came from our Washington trip...it's always a surprise,
because - well - most of the time we have forgotten all about them.

I made this cute little book to keep them in...
The front and back cover are wood, with postcards glued to them.
The binder rings on the side open, so I can always add to it.
The post about the making of this book can be found here.

We are getting quite the collection...

this is the back cover.

Short sweet notes to each other, this year I even had Cherry Blossom Stamps!!

If you take the occasional trip, you should really do this.
It is such a fun way to look back and remember the highlights of your trip,
ours always seem to involve food and restaurants!
Georgia Browns - the best southern cooking in Washington -
we go every time we are in the area, their fried chicken and sweet peach tea is to die for!

Home...

it's where the waves crash...

the locals gather...

and the sand stretches on forever.

It's where the beach grass grows...

and anything goes.

Sometimes you just need a day at the beach ~ and ~ a pocket full of sea glass!

Monuments by Moonlight

The Monuments by Moonlight Night Tour is a "don't miss" if you are ever in the
Washington, D.C. area.
A nighttime trolley tour that takes you right to some of the city's most popular monuments.
Our tour guide Jason was awesome,
and had some very interesting and fun facts about the city.

The Capital

The Washington Monument

The Lincoln Memorial

Korean War Memorial
We also saw the
Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Wall here.

Iwo Jima Memorial

Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial

The hubs and I really enjoyed the tour although parts of it were quite solemn.
Washington, D.C. is a really beautiful city at night!

Carousel on the Mall

While we were in Washington, we visited this
Carousel on the Mall
Built in 1947, this one of a kind carousel is nicknamed the traveling machine and
is the only working carousel in Washington, D.C.

The complete history about the carousel can be found here.
It is quite interesting!

Cherry Blossom Festival

The Cherry Blossoms are blooming in Washington, D.C.,
- if you go, the view will take your breath away -
Yesterday we dedicated the day to viewing the blossoms...
us and about 10 billion other people.
The tidal basin was packed,
but it was so nice to see so many people out enjoying the blooms
and everyone kindly taking pictures for one another.
The blooms were nothing short of stunning.
They must be strong willed trees as they survived
all of the late freezing temperatures beautifully and were determined to be gorgeous.
And gorgeous they were...

Two beautiful days with the most amazing man alive.
And if anyone tells you the blossoms were a no show this year,
they haven't been there.

The Cherry Blossom Festival

We are off to Washington, D.C. for the blooming of the Cherry Blossoms.
Nothing signifies the arrival of Spring quite like the
Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C.
The Cherry Blossom trees signify the friendship between the US and Japan,
who gifted many of the trees to the United States.
Rumor has it that only about half will bloom, the weather has not been kind to them,
but we enjoy the trip each year and have decided to go anyway.

Prime viewing is suppose to be Saturday, it will be 75 degrees in Washington on Saturday,
and that sounds just perfect to me!!

oooooh, you are enjoying captures from last year!

Beauty And The Beast

I am not a huge Disney fanatic but I really wanted to see

This theater is brand new, close to home,

has stadium seating and awesome cup holders.

We went to the 3:30 show,
prime time sleeping time, I told the hubs he could take a nap and he did.

I on the other hand, did not.
The movie was amazing - the traditional Beauty and the Beast Disney Story.
Belle was amazing, everything about the movie was so authentic.
"Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle.
Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff
and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize
the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside".

The movie was outstanding - the set's, the costumes and make-up - everything about it.
But, it is not a cartoon and not for the little ones,
it did have some scary scenes.

Yarn Along

The wash cloths are still rolling off of the knitting needles.
They were/are suppose to be Christmas gifts,
but I have enjoyed gifting a few of them already.

I gave two to my niece Emily to take with her to New Zealand.
I wanted her to have something special and handmade from me to take with her.
These were the perfect gift since they are small and compact...
they both took their hand knitted hats with them as well.

This washcloth is currently on my needles...

and these are going to another special niece who is celebrating a birthday.

This is the rest of the package, boxed up and ready to travel to her home in South Carolina.
I love these girls!

Yarn Along is over - I didn't know - this will be the last scheduled one.
I will just post my knitting whenever my little heart desires!!

There's A New Nikon In The House

We are still getting to know each other...
I am still reading the manual...
but this baby does a lot and I am excited to get to know her better.

This camera has awesome zoom capability and amazing scene settings.
She will also be much easier for me to handle!
