Saturday Critters ~ 278 ~

A photo shoot with a
Mourning Dove

This guy is slightly plump...based on his coloring, I will say it is a male.
My book says they are slim bodied with long tails.
That they walk with jerky, rapid movements on short pink/red legs.

Here he is winking at me.

Puffing out...

even more...

and more.

They feed off the ground, which has always been the habit of my doves in years past.
This year, they started coming to the window feeders,
sitting on and in the feeders eating the sunflower seeds, I have never seen them do that.
They are here year round and have the most beautiful coo-ing call.

Hello, the doves are so sweet. They have pretty faces. The doves here are shy and do not like their photos taken. Beautiful series of dove photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend! PS, thanks so much for leaving me a comment.

It's interesting how you say the Mourning Doves have become more tame. The same thing has happened over several years to our once very wild Woodpigeon. Now they are a very common garden pigeon.

Oh these are beautiful. Here they are way too shy. They go on my balcony to sit but then they dive down to the ground. So they are ground feeders. Interesting. Thank you for commenting on my blog. I liked when you said the one is winking. For sure.

WOW! You captured his beauty so well. I love having them around from spring to the fall. They leave for winter. Smart birds.:)

They always sound so peaceful to me. Some find the sound lonely though.

Hi dear friend,
I love these photos of this beautiful dove. I am hoping that you will get this comment. My comments on blogs have not been working. I have been making comments on all your posts but they are not showing up for some reason. I hoping this will post. If it does, I will be very happy. Sending hugs your way!.

I love the second picture with the half closed eye, they sure look different when they are all puffed up don't they. Ours always hang out under the feeder but a few times they have tried the suet feeders we have but you can tell they don't like them.
Hope you are having a good weekend!

Their song really is indicative of their name. It is a mournful sound.
