The Egrets Are Back...

I was so excited to see a Great White Egret yesterday.
They are back here at the Jersey Shore and I could not be more excited.
And just to add to my excitement,
the pristine white Egrets are in their finest breading plumage.

 Breeding plumage = a patch of neon green skin, on the face, near the yellow beak...

and pretty, long flowing plumes extending from it's back.

It was a super windy day and here it balanced easily on one leg.

On guard for sure,

this Great White Egret did not make it easy to capture these images!

And this was another "it's all about the moment" moment.
I was quite far from the big bird and these are the best images I could capture with the lens I have.
But it matters not, this was one of those special occasions,
in nature, the breezes blowing, the grasses crackling and appreciating this big beautiful bird.

With that said, I may need a bigger, better lens!
* smile *
I hope the hubs is reading!
* wink *

April 1st, ps...I ended up loving these images and I am very happy with the, not so close, distant view.
And the pretty grass and sparkling water surrounding the big bird!

Oh, beautiful bird!
I watched a lot of herons in Romania in the Danube Delta.
In Poland, the white herons are rare.
Have a great Weekend Debbie for you and for your Husband.
Greetings.

Beautiful! - & I very much remember cattails like that: they were in Manasquan, about a block or so before the inlet.

I think -- no fooling -- that you should be delighted with these images! Isn't that green face gorgeous? I got a picture of the face a couple of weeks ago, but not the pretty feathers you caught and also not such pretty surroundings. Hmm... now that I think of it, I think I'm envious of you ;>)

Beautiful! I've never photographed an egret. You were right to be happy with not getting super close. If you find you don't have enough lens for frame-filling shots, think about habitat or environmental portraits which simply means showing a critter in its habitat. Sometimes including lots of natural environment is better than just a head shot.

Great shots, I too love the sparkling water in the background of them, love that effect!!! So glad you were able to see them and capture them on camera.... you sound like my hubby, "well if I had this so and so lens I would have been able to get that picture better" He has had to build up his arm muscles just to carry the lens he bought, LOL!
