Watching an Orchid Bloom!!

Many years ago I purchased a "Just Add Ice" Orchid,
on the cheap in my local food store.
The story of this Orchid, for me, dates back to October 2012.
You can read prior entries about this beautiful plant
here * and * here *
Three ice cubes, once per week, keep this baby alive and thriving!

Buds start to form and they are tiny, really tiny, and look like this...

it's difficult to believe that such a large and beautiful flower is contained
in such a tiny bud.

Two have opened today...this one,

and this one!
Four more are coming, and the timing is perfect.
Today it is snowing!!
What could be better than orchids inside and snow outside.

The weather peeps are predicting three days of nuisance snow,
for reasons of my own, I hope it is just a nuisance and nothing more.

Right now it looks so pretty coming down and not sticking to the ground.

Hi, Debbie! The orchid is beautiful. I'm like you--it's hard to imagine that big bloom being inside the bud. The mysteries and wonders of Nature. :-) You must be an orchid whisperer if you're had the same one since 2012. :-)

So beautiful, Debbie. I never knew that about an orchid, and perhaps if I had would have tried one. :)

Take care in that weather, I'm sure you have plenty of fun things to do inside.

I would love to try and grow an orchid, but fear I would kill it! Yours is beautiful!

Three ice cubes once a week? Who knew it was that simple! I would have thought the ice cold water would damage the roots... hmmm I must look into getting a plant!

Such a lovely delicate bloom, and the colour is fantastic too.
Hope the snow doesn't cause a nuisance ... we have had strong winds the past few days ...talk about 'bad hair day' !!! LOL!

All the best Jan

Wow those are just amazing, I love how the centers just glow, and like you said what perfect timing for them. We are getting snow here today also, it snowed yesterday but not a lot stuck but woke up to a covering this morning and it is still going, no flowers here though, just the carnations that I crocheted :)

Gorgeous orchid! Reminds me of my mom, she kept one for several years.

Debbie, this is amazing , I've never heard of ice orchids, now I want to look for one. What fun. I did see an orchid nursery last week on the edge of the Everglades somewhere (there are a million different kinds of nurseries in that area). I wanted to stop to buy one, but we didn't pass them at the right time on the way back. Maybe next trip.
