Saturday Critters ~ 318 ~

Last Saturday, at Lake of the Lilies I was lucky to get some nice close-ups of the
Male Wood Duck
One of the most stunning and colorful ducks,
the males have iridescent colors and an intricate feather pattern.
In good light,
you can see his green head cut with white stripes,
the small purple patches by his eye and his chestnut spotted breast.

There is only one male at Lake of the Lilies...
I did not see a female, the male/drake hangs out with the mallard ducks.
He is quite tame, very approachable and easy to photograph.

  4. That really is the most beautiful bird! Looks like a committee got together to decide the colors and they ended up using them ALL! I love the pretty speckled breast...all puffed out in your photos! King of the Pond! heehee! Hugs!

  5. Hello Debbie! You are lucky to see the wood duck so close. Usually they are shy here and swim away quickly. They are beautiful ducks, their colors and markings are lovely. Great collection of photos. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend. PS, thank you for the visit and commenting on my blog.
