I went to check on the cygnets that we found this past summer at
Lake of the Lilies
I am not sure how many there were originally but only 2 survived.
They were not difficult to find as they are still grayish with some white, their bills are still pink/gray.
Six months after birth, they will learn to fly.
Cygnets typically turn white during their second summer.
One article said they reach full white plumage with orange beaks when they mature,
which is usually around 3 years old.
Here they are today...they were easy to spot, they are the only 2 colored like this.
Here they are on May 30th, there were 4 at that time.
At some point 2 more were gone and only 2 survived.

They are lovely. It's amazing how fast they grow, but sad only two remain.
So beautiful. We saw flocks and flocks of them while duck hunting this fall in North Dakota. Although it is legal, fear not, I will not shoot one!
thank you...they are so beautiful!! i understand that most people eat what they shoot and kill and that they feed their family. but lets take for instance a buck, with a family, running around in the woods. he is defenseless, does not know he needs to defend himself. it does not seem like a fair match. and those poor little ducks, they too so beautiful. i seek them out for pictures, that you and i both enjoy!!
Beautiful photos. It's heartwarming to hear about your visit to check on the cygnets at Lake of the Lilies! It’s always a joy to see these little ones grow up. It’s amazing how quickly they develop, isn't it? Their grayish feathers and pinkish bills are such a sweet reminder of their youth. 🦢💕
I'm glad to hear that the two cygnets are thriving. Hopefully, they'll soon learn to fly and continue their journey towards adulthood, eventually transforming into those majestic white swans with vibrant orange beaks. Nature is truly fascinating!
How is Saturday going? Read my new post.
I guess it is good that 2 of them survived but it is sad. I like your pics of them as they grew up.
Hello Debbie,
The cygnets and adult swans are beautiful. I love the cute babies too. It is sad that all four did not survive. Great photos.

Gorgeous! Your photos always capture the scene so beautifully. You have a great eye!
How wonderful to get to keep up with them and photograph them at different stages. They are so very beautiful!
They are lovely, so nice to see your photographs.
Sad only two remain though.
All the best Jan

How neat to see that they grew up, is there anyway they could have moved on, the ones that were not there, it always saddens me when some had possibly not made it.
Interesting post. Great shots of the young swans.
