Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook is a 45 minute drive from home.
The Sandy Hook Lighthouse is the oldest operating lighthouse in the United States.
It was designed and built June 11, 1764.
The light is still currently automated and on a clear night, it can be seen for 19 miles.

The Sandy Hook Lighthouse

The main reason for our visit was to see the seals...
I read that there were 20 plus seals resting on the rocks there.

These are the best pictures I could get with the lens on my camera.
They were about 300 feet from the fence line.
If you were to go, I recommend bringing binoculars.

We found this huge Osprey nest that has been here for years.
We have visited here before and we always see it.
The Osprey were not far from it.

Fort Hancock is a part of Sandy Hook, I'll share pictures of Fort Hancock tomorrow!

- still around the corner, there may wait a new road or a secret gate -

Love lighthouses! Great pics... lighthouse and seals! Seals look very fat, healthy, and happy. Neat pic of Ospreys too.

What a pretty lighthouse. I always think I would not want to get close to seals for fear of them smelling nasty and maybe being mean. So the warning signs are good. I see you have been out on little adventures. I love that. I spent the weekend with one of my daughters and she took me on a couple short nature walks. I came home feeling peaceful, it was so good for me. Blessings to you , xoxo, Susie

I didn’t know we had seals here.

The seals look really happy, content and lazy! I think that's an osprey condo. Linda in Kansas

Wow that lighthouse, (I love lighthouses) is wonderful and what a large roomy lightkeeper house. The seals are just charming to see together and osprey condo as Drummajor mentioned sounds perfect!

We enjoy visiting light houses, that is a pretty one. Oh how exciting to see the seals and that is one beautiful bird, I still can't get over the size of their nests, that must be a bit of work!

I love light houses. They remind me of my grandma who way buried by one next to her grandparents.

What a fun reason to visit the Sandy Hook one to see the seals. They look right at home on those rocks.

Lighthouses have always been a favorite of mine, but unfortunately, we have no need for them here. This one is very well kept! Glad the seals were still there for you! That would be cool to see!
