We visited here Friday primarily to see the seals but there is so much more to see at Fort Hancock.
Fort Hancock is a former United States Army Fort located
at Sandy Hook in Middletown Township, New Jersey.
The Coastal Artillery Base defended the Atlantic Coast and the entrance to the New York Harbor,
with it's first gun batteries operational in 1896.

Great photos! I like the wanderlust quote! Take care, enjoy your day!
Such a bummer to see it going into decay, but neat that you are able to see what was there at one time. We were at a base that closed down and we went back to see it a couple of times and the housing area people were able to buy some of the houses, and in some of the old buildings they allowed business to come in, it looks a lot different but so nice to see all of it didn't go to waste. Looks like it was a fun day out :)
I always enjoy photos of old buildings. They have such character. The old battery looks to be in good shape.
Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing.
That's a pretty dilapidated place!
Debbie - I was fascinated by the building that is in six of the last seven photos. It looks like part mansion and part barracks! Shame that amazing porch is falling down ...
I love all the old buildings. It is a memory of days gone by and has so much history to tell.
That is quite the sprawling place, or appears to be. The buildings are still impressive! I love the Battery Potter entrance!
