There is a large population of Mute Swans at
Lake of the Lilies.
Lake of the Lilies.
They are a common sight in the Northeast, even on ornamental and urban ponds.
The sexes looks similar,
the female's bill basal knob is smaller.
Mute Swans can be very aggressive in defensive of their nest
and are highly protective of their offspring and mate.
It is one of the heaviest flying birds in the world.

I find them to be very beautiful and easy to photograph.

It is a splendid bird and always stirs the emotions. Not all people like them, however, due to their impact on native species. In Maryland a few years ago a total cull was implemented and all Mute Swans were killed. Perhaps you know that in Britain this is considered the Royal Swan and all individuals belong to the Crown.
Hello Debbie, beautiful captures of the Mute Swans.. They are lovely birds. Happy Monday, enjoy your day! Have a great new week!
As always, such beautiful photographs that I feel like I’m right there! I haven’t been to the ranch to see the one swan they have there in a long time! Bet he’s full grown and big now! He was always bigger than the other ducks!
They are stunningly beautiful.
Well leave it to me, I am thinking are these swans deaf or can't make noise? I looked it up and of course it is just a breed lol. They look really big to me and love when they put their heads on their back.
Mute swans are beautiful and graceful... especially in the water or in flight.
They are such beautiful birds. I have never had the privilege of seeing a swan in real life, we have mostly geese and ducks.
What stunning pictures of these beautiful and graceful creatures. Thank you for filling my life with beauty, sweet Debbie. Hugs to you!
