After the Roof...

The roof is done...YaY!!

And five sky lights have been replaced.
We had seven but decided the two in our bedroom, over our bed,
which is over the garage, had to go.

We had a few leaks over the years, the roof was the original roof
and it was 29 years old.
The damage from those leaks needed to be repaired,
so now the real torture has begun.

 In my beautiful family room,
all the furniture had to be moved and covered.
We have twenty foot ceilings,

scaffolding needed to be set up, in order to reach

and fix the many nasty leaks like this one.

This is a "we are half way there" shot.
Not exactly my favorite style.

There were five leaks in the living room,
two in the master bath and two in the upstairs den.

The hubs has worked so hard this past weekend,
I have been his trusty assistant.
We are hoping the work is done today, then the cleaning will begin.

Who wants to come help??

Wow, what a huge undertaking! I'd go nuts with my house in that much disarray. I'm glad it's all done.

So glad the work is almost over! I know that must have been frustrating--that's how I would feel with work going on around and over me. I wish I could hop in the car and come help.

Reminds me of a 'modern day' Zhivago scene!!! Good luck getting the finishing touches done. You will have such a good feeling when all is back to normal.

It won't be long until we're in the same shape. Now that the three-story high (and 100 year old) chimney has been repointed, we have the roof to be done. Then the same kind of painting. I'm not looking forward to it, and I think it will happen after the holidays -- weather permitting.

I love the looks of your house. The construction is so hard to live through but so nice to have done.

The new roof looks nice! I'm sure you're glad to have that done. The inside repair is a pain, but obviously necessary and you'll have peace of mind once it's done, too.

oh my word...such a huge job!! I love all the windows and light. And your curtains. And the stained glass!! I wouldn't be much actual help - but I'd be good for fast food delivery and a little bit of humor!

Those are some great photos! We love skylights, our cat used to get on the roof and look down at us through the ones in the living room. The sound of rain hitting them was so good. Can't wait to see the after photos! Good job Debbie!

You have a lovely home. Sorry you had leaks. Fortunately, your hubby is handy and could fix the issues.

Clean up is never fun but glad all the work is completed in time for the holidays.

I recall the days of house construction with fondness NOT! It's such a pain but the end result is worth it. I think your hubby is doing an awesome job.

Kudos! Looking real monolithic in all the right ways, heh. The larger visual profiles are always easy to take care of; it's the accumulating flaws that need attention, which aren't easy to spot, yet are most impacting such as the leaks. Hope you got those patch up, and hope you get the right repair people for the job, with the proper vantage to deal with those and act accordingly.
