The Great Blue Heron

At the end of the boardwalk in Ocean Grove,
there is a small lake where a few Herons hang out.
One of our favorite places to ride the bikes,
we always make a pit stop at the lake to see who's hanging around.

On September 21, 2012, we got lucky.
I had such an overload of pictures at that time,
I never got the chance to share these.
In this picture, before he sees us, his neck is down, he is unguarded.

Once he spots us, his guard goes up as well as his neck.
Right after I took this picture, he was airborn.
The Great Blue Heron is my favorite bird to photograph.

We headed back to the boardwalk to finish our bike ride,
this was the pretty view from the boards.

The boardwalk here in Ocean Grove
was destroyed during Super Storm Sandy.

I am a Heron fan as well. They are interesting birds. Wonderful photos of them. It's still distressing to hear about the slow recovery from Sandy. I am hoping that this storm does no more harm.

Those herons are so crafty. I can't tell you how many times I've just about to click the shutter, and they fly off before I do. One even honked at me as he flew away.

I love the Great Blue Herons. Which makes me think that I haven't seen ours much this winter. Hope he's okay and survived the harsh weather we've had. Your photos are great as always! Too sad about the boardwalk, those storms can sure be destructive.

Stunning photographs, Debbie! It's always a delight to see these elegant birds. Great Blue Herons are one of my favorite subjects to photograph too. I hope they will be able to restore the boardwalk once the warmer weather returns.

Beautiful shots, Debbie. Seeing these makes me even more impatient for sunny, spring days to come. Haha! We ate our big Grands. Oh my! Secretly, I could have eaten 2 of them. Yum!! We will definitely get some more to have for special days.

Great shots, Debbie! This is one of my favorite birds to photograph as well. Getting them to be cooperative is another story, though.
