Silver Lake in Belmar is a really pretty lake at the Jersey shore.
A little further from home,
so I don't visit here as often, but it was a beautiful day and I wasn't ready to go home.
We had a great time, and there was plenty of wildlife to be discovered.
Images from April 20th
Rock Pigeon
According to my book, it is the most familiar pigeon especially in towns and cities.
A fearless bird that typically depends on handouts or feeding off the ground.
This mute swan appeared to be sitting on a nest, it is their nesting season.
I believe this is the female, the bills nasal knob appeared smaller than the companion watching over her.
I was quite close to them, both were very dosil and did not seem to mind having their picture taken.
it will be a lot harder when the leaves are on the trees.
I took a picture of this with my phone and it identified this bird as a Red-Winged Blackbird.
I watched the birds flying in and out but could not get an action shot.

Debbie, your photos are beautiful. Here in Montreal there are many pigeons. I love all birds. It seems that many birds have made Montreal their home. It is forbidden to feed wildlife here in the city, but some people do feed them. People who own a home can have bird feeders in their backyard and have seen cardinals, sparrows, hummingbirds among others. I live in a 6th floor apartment and it is forbidden to feed the birds. The birds are smart, though, they know where to go to find the food.
Hello Debbie :)
I always enjoy seeing your perfectly in focus photos. Pretty colours in the Rock Pigeon's feathers and two lovely captures of the Red-winged Blackbird. Swans are regal looking aren't they? I enjoyed seeing all the creatures in your post.
Happy Weekend Debbie.
All the best
Sonjia.
Now I know how to tell the difference between a male and female mute swan. Thank you Debbie, all delightful photos. I am back from my blogging break now. My family has gone home after a wonderful vacation together.
Hello Debbie,
A lovely outing at the lake. The birds are all beautiful.
The Rock Pigeon's feather are colorful and pretty.
I love the Swans, they are beautiful birds.
Great captures of the Red-winged Blackbirds.
The natural birdhouse is a great place for the birds to nest.
Thank you for linking up and sharing your critter post. Take care, have a great week ahead. PS, thank you for leaving me a comment.
That time absorbed in photographing nature is so special! Nothing better!
Oh boy, I see a lot of swan pictures in your future! These are great, and if they are going to be gracious enough to nest where you can take great shots, you need to take advantage of it!
You captured some wonderful pictures

Gorgeous photos, Debbie - love the swans! They are such regal birds and so wonderful that you caught them nesting. I think the cooing of pigeons is the prettiest sound, and I remember red-winged blackbirds from my childhood in New England. We lived on a little pond and seeing that flash of red meant summer was coming. We do have them here in WA State, but I don't live near the water, so I don't see them often. Hope you have a lovely week. xx K
These are wonderful photos of the wildlife you spotted. It's always nice to discover little pockets of nature, even if they're a bit further away.
Great pics, they must realize you are just there to get a pretty pic of them, so they trust you not to hurt them :). I love the nature bird house!
