Back on September 19th, I found this Great Blue Heron fishing at a lake near Spring Lake.
I was so happy to see and capture the heron...
but the water in the background was so unappealing I was not thrilled to share them here.
I thought better of that because I am running out of pictures to share,
and anything that might appeal to you guys...
well, you get it...
so here they are, in the order they were taken, he was an intense fisher!
The herons tongue has papillae or spines on it to aid in the positioning and consumption of fish,
which the heron swallows whole.

Wow! I admire your perfect shots!
Happy weekend !
The photos showing lunch slipping down its throat are priceless. Great captures, Debbie. Love them.
Those are great photos Debbie. I like watching birds. We see cranes fly over around here. But no Herons are Egrets. But a few towns south we can see them, on the lake. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

All the best Jan
Herons always look so intense!
Thanks for sharing the photos of this Great Blue Heron. I think the photos are marvelous and I love that you caught this one in the act of fishing and eating. I truly love to read about the different birds you have there. I have never seen one of these. I do enjoy learning about nature. Great Shots!
Blessings and hugs!
FANTASTIC!
These are excellent action shots.
their necks always amaze me, good capture of him getting his supper, may not be happy with the background but some fun pics nonetheless :)
Great photos! I know what you mean about the background. I, too, like the clear blue water, but they don't always hunt in the good stuff. LOL! You are correct on this one being a youngster.
