Mr. Downey Woodpecker comes to visit every day.
He is a little more skittish than most of my other birds,
but on this day, this mister, was really showing off.
I was going to cut that little nub on the tree off,
until I noticed that the Woodpecker is actually using it for something.
I'm not sure if he is sharpening his beak, or his nails, but it was clear he was doing something.
Now, we can take that off the hubs "to do" list!!
Action shot...
A little more action!!
I get a lot of questions about my bird photographs...
When photographing my birds,
I am inside the house, the window is open, and I am usually hanging out with camera in hand.
I don't use any fancy gadgets and I never use a tri-pod...
well I do, but only for selfies for us old birds...hehehe

I don't edit my pictures, occasionally I will crop them but that is rare.
Today's images are not cropped.
I am old fashioned about the art of photography...
there is something about holding the camera in my hand and not editing what I saw.
I have never taken any photography classes,
these are far from professional quality, I just like to take pictures.
I enjoy recording what I love and sharing it with others.
Thanks always, for all your very kind and supportive comments.

You're a natural nature photographer! Brilliant, fun little guy!
They look professional to me. You are an amazing photographer, Debbie!
Very nice!
He looks like a proud bird
he's adorable. :)
You do not and you are not....
But your birds are proud of you.
That's why they like to show off, like me.
Hello Debbie. I always enjoy your bird photos, you are great with the camera. Love the cute woodie, beautiful series. Thank you for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your weekend!
Love the two red spots on the back of his head and indeed he is doing something with that stub.
Very nice! Mine won't sit still long enough. Sometimes birds will clean their beaks that way, especially to get excess suet off. I'm laughing at the hanging out the window part... :-)
I love the series. He is up to something!

sweet looking eyes
He is a cutie.
Merle......
You've got some great shots of the Downy.I find them to be less skittish than their cousin the Hairy Woodpecker.I also realize that birds in different areas will act differently.
Yes your little fellow is loving that little nub. You have mentioned a couple of times you are hanging out of a window when photographing your critters. I love that vision. Keeping hanging out the window, you photos are lovely! Hugs!
Isn't he just beautiful and it looks like he was doing some posing for you too :) That is great that you can sit comfortably in the house to capture these lovely birds. I am with you, I really don't care for using a tripod, I will have to say I have gone in and lightened or darkened a picture though, I am not quite use to the settings and sometimes I am a bit off when I am setting up the shot.
Fantastic!
Those are outstanding pictures Debbie, of a skittish little woodpecker no less!
Hi Debbie, your little friend is great. I always like it when the Downies visit us in West Virginia.
Certainly he is glad you left that nub up for his personal grooming experience!
~
Oh my that little woodpecker is so cute and yes definately using that tree nub for something. I think you take wonderful pictures.
Such a wonderful series of photo's Debbie.
A joy to see, thank you.
All the best Jan
I still believe with all my heart you could publish a book of your bird photos. You are as good as a professional in my opinion. I really love that you share your work and the pictures of this beautiful woodpecker are stunning. This woodpecker is a professional bird model. I loved it; big hugs!
